Agreed the kidney grills are so hot. Iconic and futuristic. The sedan flattening them out doesn’t resonate with me as much.

Would be sick if that sunroof, was switchable glass and could go dark to block sun if needed.

Can I opt in for two versions:
  • Long-roof version aka 5 series touring
  • A shooting brake version similiar to Z4 concept

PS: maybe there are some photoshop pros out there

Intriguing. The exterior design is neither stunning or adverse…pretty average except for the front end which might be a little polarizing. The interior is a step towards Tesla though far more elegant. I think the placement of different dashboard elements at the base of the windshield rather than using a HUD is a good thing. I could care less about customizable fake noises or integration with my instagram account. The video lacked real substance regarding the stuff I care about…motor, HP, potential range, chassis construction, and elements that make this a reliable long term transportation purchase. I see this car also has the obligatory (breakable) glass roof…I guess so our insurance rates can remain as high as possible…..

Front end =

Exterior (other than front end) =
And I'm sure the performance will be great.

I thought BMW was the only manufacturer getting EVs right. Making the elecric versions in almost identical styling to their ICE counterparts, with the exception of the iX. And speaking of the iX, I didn't think you could design a worse front end, but I guess I was wrong.

Bottom line, this is really disapointing designwise.

Yikes. There's a reason that the vehicle is never shown clearly and is only shown about 5% of the running time of the
entire release video. It's horrendous looking, inside and out. The future is looking pretty bleak to me.

Dig it lots except the illuminated grille. HUGE step up after 10 years of horrible design. Love the retrofuturism. The last 10 years of BMW design will be a low point for sure. Not super excited about an electric future but will keep my old BMW as long as I can!

I agree. BMW SHOULD use these same kidneys on the Neue Klasse sedan. That would look much better instead of the fake projected Kidney's within that double light bar in the front.

Hate the Tesla like tablet slapped in the middle of the dash approach
That alone will stop me considering this straightaway

One word after seeing this....Tactility!! The exterior design looks good, but I'm concerned about the lack of buttons, switches and real door handles. Tactility enhances connection. Tapping away at a screen or capacitive switches takes away from that. I really liked BMW's approach to control in cars like the current gen X3. The iX was a step back when the HVAC went into the display. I don't want to drive my phone.

Looks very good after the initial 10min shock. Proportion-wise much better than iX design. I personally still prefer the Sedan but the X looks bold and confident in its own way. Can't wait for 2026.

also - that windscreen panel design isn't new. i can't recall off hand the brand in the 90s that had something similar but it has been done before. i'll keep looking to see who i'm thinking of but i want to say buick or olds had something akin to that, though not customizable of course
It reminds me of the 2007 Honda Civic.

I like this new exterior but the interior not so much, especially the dashboard. That big central screen is too prominent and distracting, don't like the wheel also don't like the floating console between the front seats.

i'd say that porsche and the taycan and the new macan ev are pretty "right" for evs. the macan is literally the same car but electric - quite a good way to do it if you can.

The first BMW for long time that I actually like. Just fix a couple tings, and this will be a hit!

1. Give us the iDrive-controller (!)
2. Get a normal M-sport steering wheel without flattened bottom part and buttons for driving controls.
3. Give us the lovely comfort seats from E6x/F1x/G3x and/or M-seats from the same era.
4. Put in some interior trims at the dashboard and door panels, and make good looking ambient lighting.
5. Stop copying the crappy Tesla Model 3 center screen, and keep two screens like the cars of today.
6. Make the "head-up display" be a REAL head-up display that shows in the windscreen. Not under the windscreen like a cheap french car.
7. Give us classic BMW light design with "O/U/J/L"-design.

"I don't want to drive my phone". This expression deserves a separate stream of endless accolades.

It's puzzling why there is such an emphasis on intentionally engineering distractions for the driver in the name of minimalistic interiors.

Cautiously optimistic about the possibility that the final production model will reflect a more sensible approach to managing driver controls.

The car version looks pretty cool but why does the interior of the “X” version look like a cross between Austin Powers and the Jetsons?
