I went with the ZTK package primarily due to the big brakes. I thought they all had the underbody oil cooler, so I just learned that detail now thanks to this thread. I knew there was some type of upgraded cooling, but I figured it was a thicker radiator or something. The M340i group seems to be more familiar with the ZTK package including the larger brakes, you can find them talking about it a lot more. They should measure about 14.75", (374mm). The swept area is just huge, but I feel like the pad width looks smaller than I am used to seeing on brakes of this size.
When learned about the ZTK larger brakes back in September when I ordered, what I found was the quickest and easiest way to identify them over standard brakes, was this sort of "rib" or step on the openings of the calipers, that I have highlighted in green on your photo. And if that "Lt/Aly Wheels" is short for "Light/Alloy Wheels", then that's a f'n joke! These 893 wheels are anything but light! |

I think I paid $2500 for the ZTK option. I mean, this is a clear no-brainer in the value department. The only reason everyone isn't getting it is because they are not providing the information. I only knew through digging around and pure luck of stumbling on details.
I think I saw some other guys unhappy about to learn after vehicle delivery, that they cannot add the drive recorder later if they didnt get the parking assistance package? I am new to BMW as of May last year.. if there is one thing I have learned about buying a new one, is just do not skip any of the big packages because you might be passing up more than they immediately make clear. And ya, there is nothing light weight about these 893s. Pretty sure my 20x12" with 325s on my other car are lighter than these. |

I have non ZTK I have no problems with the brakes they feel extremely good to me,had the car severel times to 145 mph and brakes very well, the biggest reason I didn’t go for the ztk package was simply I wanted black rims, but after finding out every thing it comes with I would imagine it’s got to be close to 60-80lbs heavier between oil cooler, extra cooling fan, bigger calipers, bigger rotors, wider rims upfront, wider tires that’s got to add up to some weight,I wouldn’t mind bigger rotors and calipers but so far just don’t see the need ,glad I don’t have that sketchy oil cooler tho

I've probably seen the same threads and comments as you. My general impressions from threads and comments are the majority of owners, myself included, are satisfied with the brakes with or without ZTK pack.

This seems to capture my experience very well; had to get used to the feel as the brakes are very different from previous experiences.

1. Motul RBF 660 brake fluidWill be interesting to see the performance difference. It's not going to be a dedicated track car, but will be a good secondary option (for track days) if my miata has race damage.. |

For a non ZTK car, do you all have any other recommendations for autocross and maybe eventually tracking the car?
I have heard brake lines might make a difference? What about alignment/camber? |

If you try different lines let us know the results. Also you might consider different pads as well, i noticed a big difference in initial bite of the brakes compared to my previous ride and it may have to do with pad compound. Not having done any 60-0 measurements to compare i have no idea if these are overall any better or worse than that car, it's just the feel is different...no biggie for me.

Unless you’re using the car for a lot of track duty I wouldn’t worry about not having the slightly larger brakes. Most of their performance will come from increased cooling.
SS brake lines won’t make much noticeable difference, but different pads certainly can. The key is to find the combination you like with initial bite, fade, noise, and the amount of dust you can live with. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a ton of options for our car. And if you are tracking it for more than a few hard laps, racing brake fluid is just as important as the pads. |

From what I read, it's only for keeping the brakes cooler (and looking bigger) and not providing additional stopping power. A guy that lives down the street from me has a non-ZTK M240 and has complained about the brakes in a convo I had with him, so who knows.
