Funny enough, I like driving in formal/work shoes. I think the slick bottoms help feel what the pedal is doing. Its when I get in with tennis shoes that I lose sensations that assist with my driving feel.

With two pedals it's easy to drive even in the most ridiculous heels, but with the third you truly need to be an idiot to go for the 12.5 cm heels. I should know. I was really late for a dinner not long ago, and I couldn't find my driving shoes and I actually wore heels till the first crossroad. I'm sure the guy next to me will never look a pair the same way after witnessing my mild meltdown while I was moving the seat, trying to figure out how to get the torturing contraptions off my feet, pulling stockings off and finally giving up, I stepped out to do that all. I felt like a really smart individual the rest of the way there, and driving without shoes wasn't such a smart move either. Yes, you can do it if you have any sense of moderation while shopping for shoes, but idiots like me are better off on the passengers seat.

This is a good thread. Guys when you get shit at home for buying car parts, just quote me to the spouse, and if she doesn't kill you, you have won. Either way, you can consider the outcome as a win.

Other than ski boots which I've driven in a couple of times ( slippery and stiff suckers, especially with an inch of snow and ice underneath ) I've not noticed much of a problem with MTs in different shoes. That's not to say that some doesn't work better than others, they do.

The thinner the sole - the better, as it enables you to better sense the contact with the pedal. Thick soles (snow boots) numb the feedback from the pedals, make it impossible to detect how hard you press them. Supper grippy soles make it hard to pivot the foot and work the heel for heel'n'toeing. Barefoot - just feels weird to me. Quote:
And also since I bought a pair, I have to use them somewhere (soles are way too think for walking on pavement - you feel every rock and pebble). a

Driving with my work boots gets annoying sometimes, the front of the boot including the soles are wide and sometimes hit the edge of the brake when pressing the accelerator. But besides that I find it really comfortable shifting with my all-star converse shoes, seems like my movements are more precise and faster.
