Well actually you're the dick. Traffic flows with maximum efficiency when the people in the merge lane wait until the very last opportunity to merge into the single lane, creating a "zipper" closing effect. Here's a photo:

When people stop to merge in the lane that's closing 100yards from the merge point, they are just holding the traffic up for people in both lanes.

So yeah, you're kind of that dick who won't people in for helping to improve the traffic flow of everyone by merging at the appropriate time.

And you're in CT, so do you block all the people on the Merritt every day when they are doing construction?

I'm talking about flowing traffic in both lanes when the person passes by several openings in which they can merge but they decide to drive to the end then honk their horns to be let in because there is no longer space.

This is what I mean:

I will let those in that signal their intentions early. Those that speed up and try to bully their way into the lane b/c their lane ends...GFY

None of the above. It really depends on what mood I'm in...and that applies to everyone.

Use your signal and don't be a dick (don't try to squeeze in when I've already let someone over) and you can merge. Otherwise, fuck you and shame on your family. In the land of the passive, the aggressive man reigns King.

So let's say there is a line of cars clearly merging coming to the end of the merge section. No signal = fuck you to all of them? Let's not pretend we all know they're merging.

I think the thread is just about traffic in general, not necessarily merges.

I will always let people merge when that is what the road requires you to do, but generally in heavy traffic I do not leave space for someone to pull in front of me. With no traffic I will stay right except for passing.

I let everyone come in except the person that did not let me come in and when I'm on the faster lane I do not let him or her come in and boy do they try

The one's that gets to me are when they cut you off or jump in front of you without giving them the go ahead and when you flash them they slow down and drive at a slow speed, it's begs the question if they not in hurry why on earth the took the risk to cut you off on the 1st place.

I find everybody treats my BMW the same regardless if they drive a BMW or not, which means I let no one in.... Especially if you drive a BMW or a Prius.

Here are the criteria if I will/can let you in....

1. If slowing down will be a hazard, then find your own way.
2. If I did not notice you or your intentions of going in, then tough luck for you and I apologize for that.
3. If I see that you're not using your signals and you're trying to get in, then fuck you.
4. If I see that you're doing something illegal and/or your merging from an "illegal" lane, then I'll punish you as much as I can like letting the car behind catch up to not let your dumbass in.
5. If you're "cheating", you're better off going forward and try your luck with that person. I would ashamed if I let you in while everyone else behind me waited. By cheating, I mean there's a long line and the person could have merged into the line. Instead, the cheater decided to go to a free lane and go up to the front and muscle their way in. (If you're in SoCal, this happens every morning right where 101N, 405S, and 405N split.)
6. If you screwed me over a few moments ago, hahahaha...no.
7. If I see "student driver" or you seem to be sleepy/drunk or just flat-out incompetent, then the road is yours and I'll distance myself as far as I can afford.

The brand means nothing. The road manners, everything. Zipper up! Signal. Merge when the courtesy is given, slide over, return the favor to the guy in front of you.

Normally I will let one car in. But --

If I've been sitting in a line for 15 or 20 minutes, trying to negotiate a stretch of road that should have flashed by in 5, because one idiot ran into another idiot and all the morons are slowing down to look . . . those merger cars, BMW or not, can get in line behind me and sit there like I did.

PopsnBurbles said, "3. If I see that you're not using your signals and you're trying to get in, then fuck you."

Seconded.

And it's been a long time since I saw any hot babes in convertibles around here, so the question doesn't come up.

BMW drivers are a bunch of dickheads so while I generally give way to other drivers, BMW and especially M-car may have to wait.

I’m with you there. Happy to be cooperative and fair. Brain-dead drivers are on their own.

Lucky for me I live in a rural area and am retired. But I lived in the DC metro for 24 years. Don’t miss it at all.

The Bimmers on this forum aren’t dickheads. I have almost NO BMWs in my area. I think I’ve seen three (possibly duplicates) since I ordered the car six weeks ago.

So around here, I’ll be the one to set the tone. I’ll try not to be a dickhead (no promises tho).
