This isn't competition for BMW, nor is is intended to be. It's a much needed replacement for the dated CC. Hopefully they give it solid powertrain options in the US.

This looks good, but now a comment about what goes under the hood.
Did Volkswagen give up on the 3.0L VR6 turbo they'd been previewing in concepts over the past few years? It was originally thought to debut in the Atlas but they stuck with the 3.6L which is now very dated. And there is no sign of it here in the new CC - sorry, Arteon - either. Perhaps VW is planning to go the four cylinder-only route like Volvo has? I think it could work, although the ~400hp EA888 was canceled in the wake of the diesel scandal. Not that you need that much power, but Volvo is nearly there with the S60/V60 and with the T8 hybrid they are up to about 420hp. VW needs an engine like one of those (or both) to make the transition complete. |
