Apart from when Kenny Bräck participated - one good and one bad - we in Europe normally hear from Indy, when it's over.

Alonso is not only a very good driver - he is an artist. Especially in tight situations. If any europé - apart from Kenny - can perform at Indy, it's Alonso.

It has increased interest in a way that there are negotiations ongoing to have TV cover also here.

Watched him live streamed on the NBC Sports App. Only saw one wobble and it was described by none other than Mario Andretti as "that was nothing". Supposedly more than 200,000 viewed his test.

P5, only 1mph off pole! Fantastic job Alonso!

Hopefully Bourdais will heal quickly and be back soon, what a crash!

Agree, Alonso did a super job qualifying as a rookie. What a talent!
F1 is well represented. Three of the of the top five qualifiers come from the ranks of Formula 1 (Alexander Rossi - Marussia, Takuma Sato - BAR, Fernando Alonso, McLaren). With Max Chilton (Marussia) qualifying 15th.

Article on who are the better drivers. Not certain what conclusion was made here, but I think between the lines I detect some sour grapes.

Seriously. Honda keeps letting him down. He did quite well for his first time.

I think I heard that when his engine blew up, he had the fastest average speed of all the drivers. Pretty nice, congrats Alonso!

It was a clear indication of his skill and talent. It's too bad Honda has disappointed him yet again.

I wouldn't worry about him too much. Honda is paying him $40mil a year according to Eddie Cheever Jr.

Fernando Alonso signed record 3-year contract (2015-2017) with McLaren-Honda with annual salary of $40 million (£25.5m) a year including bonuses. He vowed to remain at McLaren in his official statement back in september 2016
