The type r is busy, but it has always been kinda busy. Great car regardless. I would take the rs over the type r though. maybe if one could be had for msrp I'd bite.

That is a requirement when you work for an OEM and track the vehicles. Due to safety laws for work environments you need to have a roll cage and harnesses to track/hot lap the vehicles.

Most of us have graduated from the Civic SI to the M3/M4, the grownup version. I really don't know anybody that would buy this. Maybe it's fine for a kid in high school or college but not folks who frequent BMW forums and are more established in life.

A friend of mine who's owned Porsches and a Ferrari is currently driving an Abarth. Money doesn't always buy the most enjoyable product. But to be clear, the Honda is a wee bit too ugly even for my relatively open mind. |

I love it. I hope this means Honda is back. Sure it's a little wild looking for my taste but I really like the car. I hope the next step is making a S2000 successor that's just as fun.

So wild styling aside a world with more high performance hot hatches is a good thing.

Mechanically, it's all there obviously. It's weird that on a street car manufacturers just have to go through all these bolt on wings and change the body work so it looks tacky to get this kind of performance out of them. I've watched so many F1 races where the aero is KEY to the performance of the car. The driver has a little nick and loses a small appendage that the aerodynamicist spent several hundred hours developing and they driver goes just as fast as they did before. In the end, I how much "slower" would this car have been if it looked just like the Civic SI coupe? How many more would they have sold because it looks like a grown-up would drive it without being embarrassed? It's not like Honda can taught their F1 program as being an asset.

I'm 32 and wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole. MSRP is 40k before dealer mark up. No one under 30 is easily affording a brand new 40k car unless daddy is paying for it. And hopefully daddy isn't an idiot. I mean you could if you do a silly long term.

Wasn't this record breaking Civic a pre-production car with a cage, weight reduction, etc?

This shit has boy racer written all over it. Back in 2007 when I bought my 1st Speed6 new, that was part of why I picked it over the STi & EVO. Sure, it was slower, but it didn't look like a damn stupid Hot Wheels toy. I was also in my mid 20s at that time.

Interesting list of cars that this car is faster than. Still does 0-60 in high 5s so stop light John Forces won't win any awards. "Market Adjustment" will be interesting when these hit the dealer sometime soon. Wonder how many Honda fanboys there are out there with solid incomes these days that haven't moved up to other brands. Wonder what would happen if Honda used a DCT transmission in this car on a 7 minute track. Someone said that in the future there will be different trims associated with this car. I wonder if they made a stripped version without all that fancy pants stuff and DCT what the car would do. Last edited by PoorLurker; 04-24-2017 at 07:57 PM.. |

Right on about this Honda's critic being from the wrong demographic. I'm sure much of this car's appeal to the Fast & Furious crowd is the shock value of its appearance. That, and blowing off M3s on on-ramps.
My idea of a track car would be a spec Miata. Just the name alone would cause hysterical laughter from hot-hatch crowd. But one of the benefits of being old is you cease to give a damn about what other people think of you. |

Is it really that important what image a car projects?
If you're in sales and care that much about the message your car sends to your customers you should be driving a loaded Camry or Accord, maybe a Grand Cherokee. If you show up to some big sales meeting with a Civic Type R they might think you're goofy, and if you show up in an M4 they might think you're price gouging them. But either way it's more attention to your car than is desirable unless you're in some line of business where you're trying to look like a baller to your customers. I've worked in a consulting firm where I was out with the sales team in front of customers, and that routine got old very quickly for me. Hopefully I never have to go on another client lunch or happy hour again. More power to you if that's your thing but no thank you. Anyway, as for the CTR's ring time, until Honda discloses what kind of tires they used, and what tires will come on it from the factory, it gets a big fat Barry Bonds asterisk from me. Even though I'm an old school Honda fanboy and cut my car tuning teeth on a '92 Integra GSR (VTEC y0!) and still want to do a restomod '92-'93 Integra with a built K20 swap with an LSD, big brakes, nice suspension, etc. If they did it on Pilot Sport Cups or something similar, that better be the stock tire from the factory for the time to be worth anything. |
