Macca out in q2 and Benz 0.5s ahead of the field. Crap new year same old results. Hats off to Mercedes and HAM though for not getting fat and arrogant. Respect.

There goes 2018. At least good to see Will Buxton found a job at FOM.

That lap from Lewis was legit.
Max should have easily been front row, he had a big slide on his quick lap. Let’s see what race pace each car has, not over yet. |

The new announcing team sucks, and the overhead in car camera view is terrible. Couldn't get "baby stroller" out of my mind for some reason, the cars look absolutely horrid now with that dreadful hoop. The overhead view reminded me of that little buggy with the circular top you push kids around in.
Even the new logo sucks, can't they just leave well enough the hell alone? Ugly new cars remind me of this hah. Last edited by NickyC; 03-24-2018 at 07:48 PM.. |

HAAS does look quick, Alonso doesn't seem pleased about it....calling them a copy-cat Ferrari. If HAAS can continue development through the year, they could get a podium with some luck on their side.

Guess I'm the only one who don't really like Hobbs and Matchett? Comparing to the SkyF1 team which I'm used to stream. And the way NBC cut into commercial all the time and every red flag moment. Plus the 3 mins long B-rolls during the race, plus "race recap" lasted 2-3 mins. Render the "real live" broadcast was only half of the race.
I'm ok with ESPN showing the entire Quali sessions without commercials, I'll make my comment after the first race and see how bad ESPN cuts into ads during the race. I do agree the pre-race/quali and post-race/quali is dreadful to non-exist. What's worse, the pre-race "Formula 1: On the Grid" 30 mins before the race, cuts suddenly into "E:60" program. WTF? Back to baseball?

a lucky win for vettel, i think ferrari gambled a vsc or sc and kept vettel out as long as possible....
overall the merc is a far more superior car.....like how HAM took 0.7 sec immediately within a lap after his only mistake in a race

Yeah, that was pure luck.
Vettel was going to get third. Pit stop delta was 23 sec, he was only up on Lewis by 12 sec and Kimi by 18 sec at the time of virtual safety car. With those gaps shrinking every lap he stayed out. Also should have been a traditional safety car. HAAS was a solid 4th and 5th, that sucks. |

That was pretty bad luck for HAM/MERC. but the upside is that the season won't start off as boring as it seemed yesterday (0.7 sec qualifying gap). Hopefully the next race is a wet race.
Bottas is out. he basically cracked under pressure. RIC better pick up when ever his phone rings. |

I thought the whole point of the VSC was to maintain the current gaps between the cars without having to take the time to have the actual SC come out on track. How in the hell did Vettel darting in the pits gain him that much time? There is no way that should be lawful.
But hey; if any team is going to fuck with the rules and get away with it without a penalty, it’ll be Ferrari. |

He actually gained time running at pitlane speed vs VSC. It is partly Merc’s fault. Merc say Ham had a lot of speed in reserve, but was told to run lap times he was doing. |

The big thing I saw was engine power equity and the impact it has during the race. Last year Bottas would have carved through the field to 4th or 5th; this year, not happening.

#Bringbacktheoldannouncingcrew!!!!
If I heard the name "Martin" stated one more time, or that guy constantly screaming through the whole race, I was going to puke. The new announcers are HORRIBLE. Where are the old guys?!??! They had great chemistry and so much hands on history with the sport. As for the race itself I thought it was pretty decent! My only wish is that Alonso was in the other Merc! |
