I owned a 2006 Z06 and it is a rocket right out of the box. Ranger (also on Corvette Forum) knows how to drive the car and puts down sick times when he's out. Some of these guys become more experts at launching the cars than the magazines do because they don't have a day to work with the car, they have months or years to perfect their technique.
I understand that road racing times are uber important and I agree, but for 99% of people out there the race is going to be in the straight line. Put most of us in a superior car and an expert in a "slower" car and the "slower" car on the race track will be quicker. I've seen this before. In the end, the Z06 is still a fantastic car for the money. It weighs 3150lbs (lighter than many exotics using more exotic materials) and is an unbelievable race car. Give one a try before you pass judgement. The first time you floor the gas in first gear and hit 60mph (in first gear) you won't believe it. You won't be looking at the interior either while you're doing it.
