That's a leap. Is that a factor taught in cop school? Were there no other similarly valued cars on the road, and how would YOU know that?

How do you know what "most" people would say? Did you take a survey?

I don't know if they do this anymore since I left Cali but back than when I got a speeding ticket the courts would allow you to take traffic school if you qualified to prevent this from being sent to your insurance company so your insurance premium would not go up. The teacher for the class I went to was a State Highway Patrol motorcycle cop and the statement i made was an example he used in class when someone from the class asked "if there are two speeders how do you determine who to pull over?" He said "usually which ever is the expensive car whether it's a BMW or Mercedes." The class had asked why and he said "if the can afford to drive a BMW or Mercedes they can afford to pay for the ticket!"

BTW, what's your problem getting all defensive and shit? Calm down

LOL to all the "you got what you deserved" moral police out there.
Even if its "his job" we can still bitch about it no? His job is to enforce a dumb law put in place to fill the state's pockets.
The speed limit should be at least 90 on the freeway in the first place, end of discussion.

Hire an attorney to win the case if it disturbs you that much. Otherwise, just pay it and move on I think. Couple of years ago, I got nabbed at 104 going to Arizona, and then one of those cameras on a side street in Scottsdale got me for going 5 over.
Bad couple of days...I had to appear in East Jibbip, Arizona and talk to a Judge, pay fines, etc. One more mile an hour and I would have done sometime in jail. Some other guy was there for littering-had to drive from New Mexico to appear!
Somebody will always have it worse!

You can bitch about it all you want, but don't expect everyone to be on your side. We're not here to coddle you. And if you feel so strongly about the speed limits, why don't you go out and do something worthwhile about it? Go petition to have them raised. How did you come up with 90, anyway?

Eh, just my opinion, nowhere was there any mention of greatness...
And since everywhere I drive 75% of people do at least 80-85 rather safely on the freeway I guess I'm not too far off with 90?
Who knows...I'll just wait for your next attempt at a condescending comeback, perhaps read it in between my careful study of driver's education, and not respond.
But I can see how people get sucked into this, internet forum arguments are quite fun. Cheers mate

If I'm caught, I admit it, tell them the speed if they ask, and apologize.
As I speed almost everywhere I go, I'm caught and ticketed 0.000000000001% of the time I drive, I'll accept that because I'm a grown-up.
Ok but how old are you? I'm sure that's the main factor in your technique.

I've been doing the same thing since I was in my early 30's...I'm in my early 50's now. My old boss from Florida taught it to me and it works.

Try it!

Hey, I agree with you. You'd think you could get some sympathy from people about picking up an unexpected speeding fine on a BMW forum of all prices.

65mph speed limits haven't changed since the 70's, and cars have become MUCH more capable since then. Most cars on the road more capable of stopping, steering and accelerating at 100mph than a Ford Pinto could at 60.

That said, you should go drive some modern entry-level shitbox hatchbacks. They're built to spend most of their life at 40mph and you're downright dangerous and floaty at 70mph. We're incredibly spoiled with our German cars. ... and there wasn't anybody texting and driving on the road in the 70's.

I think speed limits on highways should be abolished. Especially highways with low traffic. In Australia, the accident rates on our Northern Territory roads are consistently lower with no speed limit than when they're limited to 65. (That said, there's a population density of one person per two square miles in the NT).

I think recreational drugs should be legal too, and copyright and drug patents are an artificial monopoly that stifles innovation which solely benefits the US economy and should be ignored in countries like Australia so we can buy our medications for 30c from India, not $1000 from the USA, and use Microsoft Office for free.

But if I decide I'm going to follow these ideals despite the law - eg. pirate software, import drugs from India, grow Marijuana and travel at 100mph on highways - I risk feeling the full weight of the law if I get caught.

What I'm saying is - if the law sucks, lobby to get it changed. If you choose to break the law, accept the risk of the consequences.

I feel for OP, I really do. It sucks balls, especially when you were singled out because of your nice car, and I too believe police DO interpret the law and use their own judgement when enforcing it (rather than just being a blind instrument of the state).

But I think this thread has been a little less sympathetic than usual, because: I expect most people on this forum would agree with me when I say that I think this:

I can 100% say this works most of the time. Being polite, yes sir no sir, not lying and not moving around/reach for stuff like your wallet until they ask really helps.

Also if you know they’re coming for you just pull over and don’t make them chase you. I once was full on sideways full throttle in my straight piped mustang while a cop passed me coming the other way. I just pulled over right there as he flipped around for me. He appreciated me pulling over and just being honest with him that I was having a little fun. Got off with a warning somehow.

You must be very handsome or just down right the most charming person in the world. I have only gotten a warning once in my life. 99.99999999999999% I get the ticket and always do what you claim to do. Yep, I was speeding, no real reason except I was enjoying driving that speed.

^This. Always respectful - Yes sir, no sir, I'm sorry sir. Windows down, engine off, and palms of hands on steering wheel with fingers spread open when he arrives at window. At which time you say I'm going to reach for my registration and insurance in the glove box. Your initial interaction sets the stage.

I think the foundation is to just be a normal nice person just as if you were holding the door open to a coffee shop for a fellow patron. It goes a very long way. They are doing the scariest thing they can do which is to walk up to a strange car in an unknown situation.

I was taking my dad to pick up an new Benz when I was in grad school. I got pulled over and was at least 15 over. The cop asked if I knew how fast I was going and I said, "Unsure but pretty quickly, my dad and I are just talking about the Ali fights from the 70s and comparing them to boxing now". We talked with he guy for about 15 minutes and he let me go with a warning and told my dad to "hit me on the knuckles" if I go much faster than 70 or so.

And yes...yes I am!

OP would have received a better response if he didn't act like he was 5 and wish ill will against a cop for something HE did.

Did he know he was speeding? yes. Does he know that is against the traffic law? yes. Then he should realize that he can get pulled over for it and quit bitching. If anyone speeds and is mad at anyone but themselves when they get a ticket that are an idiot. It is a known risk with a known possibly penalty. Grow up.

Aren't they wonderful? And of such value too. Internet rep points never die you know.

My comment was in response to your rather final "end of discussion". As though you were somehow the final arbitrator - which amused me. So I figured why not have a little fun with it.

Cheers mate!
