I am 55 years old and have been on a cpap 4 years. I though I was just getting old but infact I was not getting restful sleep. I have a restmed 10 and it’s
Far better than my first machine. My new mask (nose only) is also far better.

I feel like a million buck at 3:30 pm instead of like I’m exhausted. Cannot live without it.

Mine is an ASV (ResMed Aircurve 10) machine that learns my breathing, and essentially a smart Bi-PAP. Breathing in and out is different pressures. Seriously, best part of my day is when I strap it on. Most nights, a couple minutes into laying down and getting comfortable, I am out for the count. I tried a conventional CPAP when originally tested, but it was horrible. Felt like I stuck my head out the window at 100mph with no relief from the pressure. ASV does away with all that. If you can test with one, do it! For the first few weeks I had it, my wife kept waking me up because I was so quiet she thought I was dead. I seriously believe that my machine saved my life. I don't go anywhere without it. HTH.
You hit the nail on the head, sticking your head out a window doing 100mph

Then he started giving me shirts that didn't fit him anymore. This didn't make sense to me at first, and I didn't think much of it at the time. The fact of the matter was that his chest was expanding to accommodate his enlarging heart. None of us recognized the symptoms, which all seem so obvious today.
Oh god....your story has me opening my eyes more than any doctor has.

I had SA BAD. However they said surgery would not help my 'condition'.

I can't use a CPAP. Tried for 8+ years on an off every other year or so. All the different masks, different machines, etc.

I think I will just die young which is terrifying...

Truthfully, I'm OK not living to be 95 but I would like to make say 75-80.

Shooting for 89, here.

Honestly, each year is a blessing. I feel like the older I get and look back, I have all those wonderful memories.

And more to come.

That is what I am worried about...I am going to work until 65ish I would like to have 15 years of retirement before I kick the bucket...no sure I will make it. I am amazed they have not come up with another solution yet...

I'm starting. Had a hip replaced so have been real gun shy to get active but I feel great. Just worried about hurting my new hardware.
My issue is I was diagnosed at 34-ish and weighed 185 and 5'11" so was not over weight. Even the nurse administering the sleep study said "No, you dont have sleep apnea you're not big enough"
Now I'm 48 and 220. Really like to get back to 190-195 and I would be ecstatic. Problem is I like the hooch and the food too much

5' 11'' 200 lbs. Granted I could lose 10-15 lbs but I am barely overweight and I have had sleep apnea my entire life. Even as a Kid I snored REALLY LOUD. Weight is not the issue.

https://getcalc.com/health-bmi-200lb-5ft11in.htm <--According to them I should be 165 lbs lol. 165 I would be a STRING BEAN.

Anyways. Hope something new comes out. Or there is some pill I can take that it knocks me out for 8 hours so the SA machine would work and I would not rip it off every night. God I hate those machines. Feels like I am drowning when I wake up with them on. It also takes forever to fall asleep with it on. All around sucks ass.

I take 30mg of temazepam every night before bed. Helps me fall asleep quickly and helps me stay asleep. Before that (more than 15 years ago) I used marijuana to help me sleep but I gave that up. Look in to it to see if it might help.

Benzodiazepines like temazepam can worsen obstructive sleep apnea.

As to the OP's original question, looks like you've received some solid advice so far. Always maximize non-invasive options first (weight loss, oral appliance therapy, trial CPAP) before going to invasive options (surgical intervention, i.e. inspire), all the while realizing that chronic OSA is not a benign condition and can (in longstanding untreated severe forms) lead to heart failure.

YEP!!! As I mentioned above, ASV does away with all that. As long as you are breathing normally, it is about as unnoticeable as if you did not have a machine at all. Only when you miss an inhale does it ramp up, pushing the air in so that you breathe. First "C" in CPAP stands for continuous, A in ASV stands for adaptive. It really is absolutely 100% night and day difference between the 2 machines.

This is a screenshot of my last 7 days of sleep. In the details of this 7 day run, there is a grand total of 1 apnea event for the entire week. When diagnosed, I was about 45 events/hour, or over 7 days with an average of 7 hours of sack time per night, that's 2205/week. Down to 1. Some weeks are better than others, and I'm not trying to come across as some fanboi of ASV, but it has absolutely changed my life. It is right there with getting married, having kids, and LASIK in the running for the most important changes I have ever made. I urge you to seek out any and all treatments, and if they don't work for you, find a doc that will test you with an ASV machine.

I have it and at 5-10 and 185 lbs I really don't need to loose weight. My BMI is very good and at 55 I am healthy. That's a not an answer to some of us.

I have had my nose broken three times this is man reason I use it. Was going to have the surgery but opting out at the time.

Fancy! My machine doesn’t tell me shit. I’ve been waiting since Nov for a new machine my doctor ordered. Will have to find out if it’s one of these… I have a feeling not. However for me it’s more about just having the thing strapped to my face that bothers me. The air not so much. Mine is not fancy at all, but it does drastically reduce the airflow or pressure when you exhale so you are not fighting the wind, but I think that’s about all it does.
