I’ve read elsewhere that the tires can be switched out to non run flat performance and the car recoded to remove the limiter, but has to happen in the first few miles of drive time. I can’t vouch that is true. My 2018 M240 was limited to 130 mph, but on a pretty fast track I never got past 123 mph; ran out of straight. I had the car tuned so that it was incredibly quick 0-60, and that was where the fun was for me anyway.

The ordering guide lists run flat performance tires for both the 1PW and 1PP though, so I'm not sure what tire change would need to be made or why 1PP isn't listed with 840 (speed increase) added.

I've no idea. Kinda unfair and sad

I also have 1PP tried to have them changed, but BMW genius said they cant change it after production and that the dealer could do it. called my dealer and they said they cannot do it for liability.

This makes zero sense, essentially the same setup.

So I called BMW genius, and they were also not sure why exactly why the 840 option wouldn't be applied to the 1PP wheels/tires, but they did have some potentially helpful information. They thought last character of the wheel code is supposed to indicate the tire speed rating (P, T, V, W, Y etc). He said he would reach out to the design team to understand the difference as there have been issues with order guides in the past.

The speculation of the speed rating doesn't add up, however, because a P speed rating is only 94 MPH while W/Y is 168 and 186. I've seen videos and pictures of cars with the 1PP wheels and they come with Pirelli Zero's typically. Those are Y rated tires (186 mph). So everything so far indicated that 1PP should have the option and the next step is the dealer. I can't imagine a summer performance tire being rated for less than 150 MPH, tbh.

1PP, 1PW, 1VX, 1VY, 1VZ and 1W0 (part of ZTK) all get the 840 option.

I optioned the 1VZ and it doesn't call out the 840 on the order guide either but its shows up on the feature list of my car on mybmw portal. I also ran the VIN on mdecoder.net and it shows up in the options list.

That's interesting. Can you share a pic of how it shows up? 840 does not show up in either the BMW portal or the decoder for me with the 1PP's.

That is weird! You could have the dealer check in their portal to verify if 840 is listed in the options list or not.

Question about the cooling package. Is the cooling package only really necessary if you track your car? I ask because while I want 245s up front, I don't plan on tracking the car. I just like to corner really hard when driving to the grocery store.

The B58 engine doesn’t run hot. I tracked my 2018 M240i and never had an issue with overheating so I can’t imagine the cooling package being off value if you aren’t going to do some HPDE days. I will say though, HPDE is where these cars really shine!

Today I contacted my CA and changed my tire selection just in time to add the increased top speed limiter. I deleted my all season run flats. I decided instead to go with the Performance Run Flats code 1PP with the 791M wheels. It was driving me nuts thinking that I wasn't getting the higher TSL. I know it probably sounds silly to many, but not getting all that I wanted because of a stupid tire selection, just was unacceptable. Since my delivery probably won't be until March or April, having the performance tires won't be an immediate issue. I plan to sell them before winter and purchase ultra high performance all season run flats. If I was younger ( I'm over 70) I'd probably just buy rims and winter tires. The info on the forum was a great help in my deciding how I wanted to go. Thanks to all!!!

Double and triple check that you'll get the speed increase with the 1PP wheels, because my build does not have the 840 speed increase option but I chose 1PP performance run flats. My dealer said he is waiting on a response from BMW corporate.

840 increased top speed limiter. With the 1PP wheels! First thing that I checked.
Clearly stated on my build sheet. Sorry to hear that your build does not reflect the higher TSL. Must be a program glitch or something. Good luck!!!

You have 1pp and you got the increased speed limit? It's not on build guide. 1PP should not have the 840 added. If you do have would like to know how!

I called my CA as I stated in my previous post. I told him what I wanted to do and he got it done. Whether he did something that was not allowed according to you, I have no idea. I read the previous posts in which members of this forum clearly stated that 1PP gets the 840 added. As far as I am concerned, they were absolutely correct. I feel your anger and I don't blame you. Perhaps your CA or whomever you dealt with did not do their job!

Serious question: where are all of you looking for the higher speed limiter planning on going faster than 130 MPH? I have the lower limit on mine and I'm looking for a reason to wish I got the higher limit 😀.

I agree, I've been amused following this thread, it's likely few of those concerned about it will ever exceed the 130 or 135 or whatever it is.
I did get the non run flat 245/255 tires but have not bothered to see if i have the 840 or not. Now i do occasionally exceed 130 mph on my motorcycle (Honda VFR) but for some reason rarely exceed 110 or 120 with my car. Perhaps because of the small imprint of the bike i think i sneak by at those speeds from watchful law officers?

Do you have a prod number or vin so you can get a pic of the decoded options or the bmw order status page with the speed option listed? I actually think it would be incredibly useful to show my CA.

For those wondering why the speed would be needed - A) If I track the car and B) Why not? It's simply a limit. When I go to sell the car I can say it's got the feature, which imo increases the value a bit regardless if someone uses it.
