It would also be helpful if everyone just considered the non-ACC as good ol' regular cruise control.

I don't own a M240i, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express.
Ok, what do you call it when the car grabs the wheel and turns it to put you back in the lane then? That's what mine does.

I've driven other cars that just warn you with a wheel vibration and warning bell and it's not that.

Ok, sorry for the confusion and for posting incorrect info. I didn't realize there was a difference between those 2 features. I couldn't tell the difference between the BMW active driving assistant and true lane keeping. I guess one is subtle and one is just the jerky correction.

I call it a more advanced AI of bumper bowling.

Will your M240i keep you centered in your lane w/o bouncing off the lane markers, even on a twisty road? If yes, then I stand corrected and you do indeed have BMW's Active Driving Assistant Pro. However, I have not seen that option in the configurator, nor was it an option when I sat down with my dealer when we added the ACC. Somewhere I read the package is only available with 3 series and up.

No worries. I posted the detailed info while you were posting this. Good info for others, as not long ago I was confused as well.

We do have "Active Driving Assistant" which has the ability to provide corrective steering (most people dislike the way it works) as well as corrective breaking if under 20mph.

Lane Keep Assist which is part of 5DF (Adaptive Cruise Control) attempts to detect the lanes and will continuously provide corrective steering action to keep you there provided you keep your hands on the wheel. In addition to this the package also includes additional collision avoidance & auto-breaking mechanisms.
So with 5df the car will steer on a non-straight road? Thanks!

The car will not steer itself under any circumstances ever with any options.

At most it will temporarily and briefly jerk the wheel if you drift out of your lane or try to change lanes into a car. This functionality is standard.

Yeah, I think some people are confusing what’s available here with the more advanced lane keep assist / traffic jam assist systems available on some of the larger, more expensive vehicles.

The ACC option on the 2 is really just cruise control. I don’t have it on my car because I would never use it but it’s covered in my manual and it says nothing about lane keep assist. Just radar cruise control.

240 has the standard active driving assistant. The pro is the one we can't get and that is the one that has those auto steer features.

With all due respect, this is incorrect. If a M240i has ACC (option 5DF), then it has radar controlled stop & go functionality. This is NOT "just cruise control" in the normal context of what most people call cruise control.

After re-reading your post, now I'm wondering if you're simply saying ACC is cruise control w/o any of the lane keep assistance. If so, then you are correct. Apologies for any confusion on my part.

Dynamic Cruise Control is standard. That means the car will use its brakes to keep a certain speed.

Adaptive Cruise Control is an option that seems to be intermittently available for order. This is the radar CC that will match speed of traffic ahead of you.

Neither will steer the car.

Can we just delete this thread and start over? There are so many posts containing misinformation that even those that may have a decent grip on all this could start second guessing themselves. I’m mostly kidding, of course, but geeze!

Cliffs Notes:
  • Car comes with regular cruise control
  • Stop & Go cruise control (AKA: ACC) is a $750 option (5DF) that must be added by dealer prior to production. Some dealers will help, others won't.
  • Car comes with lane departure warning
  • Car does not offer lane center steering

I had ACC in the order (5DF) added by the dealership and it was removed when the car entered the production queue. Still need to think if I'm taking the car without it.

No way I'd give up this car over ACC. I barely even like ACC.

I keep on telling myself how much I want the car to have ACC but i have a feeling once the car arrives and I test drive it, I would completely forget that it didn't have it 😅😅

FYI I currently have an arrangement with the dealership where if after it arrives, I don't like the way it drives, I could use my deposit towards a 330. I just have to choose a common color

Wow, my dealer didn't even want a deposit. They said if I don't want it once it arrives to simply walk away and they'd sell it to someone else.

Wow. Where are you located?

It is an easy sell. Technically a deposit is not needed but I was told they are getting a lot of out of state folks making orders because my dealership does not do mark ups and then backing out because they got a different car or the same car at an earlier time from another dealership

I have the same deal. No deposit, take it only if you're interested. Queens, NY.
