With Penske, you are correct that individual dealer managers have a large amount of autonomy. The opposite is true for Autonation stores. I have a friend that works at a Penske store and his boss does whatever he wants. I have a friend who is a manager at a Asbury Group BMW store (they are a fairly large nationwide auto group) and he has a good bit of autonomy as well.

I've been servicing my cars at Catonsville for years and haven't had any issues there. But with my G80 order, I can't say I was too impressed with either Silver Spring or Catonsville. The former was very non-committal about pricing, and the latter was happy to accept an MSRP order, but subsequently told me they would require a $5k surcharge for my Dravit Grey option (which is only semi-Individual and does not normally induce long delays), on account that it would postpone delivery and therefore reduce their throughput of M cars and therefore threaten to reduce their future allocations. I thought that was BS and found other dealers to place my order with instead.

Interesing! Yeah I live in Howard County as well which is why I go to those same dealers. That is BS! I've never actually bought from either of those dealers though. My last car was private sale used and my current, I actually had shipped all the way from BMW of Murrieta (on the list lol),because they had the exact spec I wanted.

I've spoken to Patrick in the past, and they were also very helpful. Just didn't have the car with the options/colors we wanted in stock. I've also bought a car from Laurel in Westmont and they were good too.

I totally agree about BMW of Ft. Lauderdale, they have a fabulous sales and service team!!! You truly feel like a valued customer when you deal with them.

The fact that Braman is on the list insults the intelligence of anyone who has ever dealt with them!

I don't live in South Florida, but know too much when Braman sued BMW NA in federal court back in 2017 for violating the Florida Dealer Act, as the case is still ongoing. Unreal how BMW will use this center ranking as a defense now.

Wondering the same thing. Had a less than pleasurable experience with Bill Jacobs. But they rectified it after I escalated and apologized. But totally agree re: the SoFla dealers. Braman Miami was quoting me $10K over on our X5MC when I was easily getting 8% off from other dealers. But people in SoFla have more dollars than sense sometimes. Vista is pretty crappy too from what I've heard. I stay away from Florida stealerships whenever possible.

I remember that lawsuit and it also included the West Palm location. Remember how, after the lawsuit was filed, Braman Miami and West Palm all of the sudden started appearing on the best dealer list when they rarely made the list prior to the lawsuit? My belief in the validity of the ranking system went out of the window when that happened.

True story. Back in 2016, I wanted an X6 and Braman Miami had the car in stock almost as I would have ordered it. I didn't want to wait for it to be built so I just went to a friend who worked at Braman West Palm and told them I wanted the car and my offer was aggressive, but not below invoice. They flat out refused to come close. I then went to my friend who manages Coggin BMW and he said "No problem, I'll buy the car for you, give you the deal you want and have it in two days." He beat his promise by a day and I picked it up the following evening. Called my friend at Braman West Palm and told him the X6 was in my garage and sold to me by his competitor. I'm still friends with him, but I'll never buy from Braman again. They lost a sale of their own car by being unreasonable. Wasn't my friends fault, it was his manager's fault. Oh well, I don't care as I still got my car.
