Ugh…

I did not even notice it last Saturday, but now that you mention it.
Yea, sucks, even a 3 million dollar US spec Bugatti has amber reflectors attached to its front bumper - like if the rules applies to rich folks.. 😏

The US vehicles get a few differences in specs from the rest of the world due to some draconian inflexible rules..

One that really irks me is the rest of the world gets some really sleek amber rear turn signals and the US version is all red and shared with the brake light. It can be modify but is a pain the butt to successfully accomplish on the new "G" generation.

.
Do you know the background on why US doesn't get amber/orange rear turn signals? Isn't that the traditional color for turn signals since forever ago? 🧐

The color of the turn signals on vehicles in Europe and rest of the world is legislated to be the color amber but there is no oversight on what photometric size they are in function. In North America it could either be amber or red but there are different regulations where both the brake light and turn signal has to meet a minimum illuminated surface area of at least 50 cm2 (7¾ in2). This is not hard to accomplish on a large vehicle where there's plenty of space to design a large rear lamps but on a smaller vehicle the space is limited.

So since the brake lights already has to meet the surface area requirement and the regs say that the same light can be used as a turn signal (a situation unique to North America), automakers just needs to have only one lamp of at least 50 cm2 per side, that alternates in functions, blink or remain steady.

BMW originally used a narrow cool amber LED strip for the rear turn signals as a design standard and although they are intense and noticeable in light output, the amber led strip does not meet the US photometric size requirement federal standards used for compliance measurement.

So for the US, BMW took advantage of this light combination loophole and converted the amber LED blinker strip to the color red and have it alternate in functions from turn signal or brake light because this is cheaper to do that than redesigning the basic structure of the taillamp assembly just for this market. The red combination brake/turn lamps are legal and so problem solved and we are stuck with these compromise lights.

I, for one, prefer the look of the amber rear turn signals, especially in that gorgeous LED strip for both cosmetic and safety benefits.

After staring at a G87 for several hours I came to the conclusion that I much prefer the rear of the car than the front. Truthfully the rear bumper cover is not that polarizing in person. The front, especially in the center is relatively flat. For me, it is reminiscent of a E36.

Will look even better with the carbon roof, also i believe we get the extended shadowline as standard here in Oz, this includes black mirror caps and rear spoiler which should look good.
Shadowline will still have body colored mirrors and spoiler. You just get the lights and the exhaust tips.

Does shadow line get a different window trim?

Yep specific to Aus - we have a mostly optioned version as standard (for once) with the carbon package being an option

Yes, each country has a BMW product planning team that selects the standard equipment, the contents of each package as well as the standalone options.

Okay nobody has responded and I have a feeling why. I saw your first post and looked several times and I don't know what you are talking about. The sensors are tiny and put away in the corners of the vents. It's almost like everyone is focused on the face of a model and you are the guy obsessing about a freckle on her face.

Nice, Australia seems to be the first market that offers that as an option from what I have seen. I prefer the black mirrors and spoiler and figured they weren't going to offer that anywhere until the competition comes out.

Do we think the US carbon pack will include a carbon diffuser, mirrors, and front air intakes?

Same here, I was pretty dead set on TR with cognac but now I want to see how the AW would look with cognac, bi-color wheels, sunroof, and no shadowline.

Also curious to hear how people would spec their AW. I can see some folks going for a blacked out look (black interior, black wheels, shadowline, carbon roof).

While I greatly prefer the cognac it tends to limit you at resale. Someone has to be specifically looking for one with it. Whereas the vast majority will accept a black interior.

If I was to spec a AW G87 it would be with the black with M highlight seats, bi-color wheels, lighting package, shadowline package, and maybe the CF roof.

Nope… I'm beginning to realize that light colors just won't work for this car. I've already committed to getting one in BSM.
