Will definitely be able to change it to start in sport mode through coding if it's not available through standard iDrive settings. Which if you do that, while you're in there you can also disable the legal disclaimer that appears on every startup saying don't be distracted
"Will definitely be able to change it to start in sport mode through coding."

Not possible through iDrive or BimmerCode on M cars now. Please let us know if you've found another way!

Lip stick on a pig, re the G87’s weight. Kidding… I have stated it 2x. Maybe three. A select few of us have to repeat ourselves often.

You won't be doing track mode 100% of the time because that turns off your iD8 screen. No radio/phone/AC/Safety and etc.
Isn't that odd that you can't listen to music or have the A/C on while in track mode? I don't get it.

Is this for all cars with ID8?

Stupid but on a side note: I'm warming up to the interior. That angled shot from the passenger side makes it look like a great place to be

All cars with ID8? Think through that statement. Do you believe SUVs like the iX and X7 have track mode?

I know people who use their A/C while on track. I'm sure someone out there might use the radio as well.

I was referring to the cars with the track mode.

You think sports cars are only driven on track?!

They get taken on vacation, the get driven TO the track, why not have lane departure?

Crazy. I don't know why some equate discomfort with raw.

Discomfort is sitting in an old Ferrari, manually shifting and steering yourself, the smell of the exhaust giving you a headache. It's wonderful in small doses. Small the key word.

Ahh now, what if I take an M2 - it's just as fast as that old Ferrari, faster in fact. But it's also comfortable. It's almost like I have the best of both worlds. Will it use up tires and brakes faster on track because of weight? Sure. But if that's really your concern, you should be in a Miata because every car built today is "heavy".

I had an F-TYPE recently. It weighed 4,000 lbs. at no point did I think to myself "this car is so sluggish". Quite the opposite.

I can turn most of these systems off, like I have in my G80, and they never bother me. But it's nice to know that I can use the cruise control if I need to sometimes.

You can turn the screen back on. I use it to display tire pressure and heat on track days.

Having said that, I'm always in sport mode. There is no need to be in track mode to turn off all the safety features on the street. Sport turns off lane assist anyway.

Yup. I use the AC on the track AND my Garmin Catalyst (lap timer and digital "instructor") is connected via Bluetooth to the radio so I can hear it tell me to go faster.

I feel like in about 10 years, the new sports cars will come out with FULL ANALOG instrumentation and a dash loaded with "shortcut" buttons… they will point out how quick and simple the interface between car and driver is, and how "true drivers" need that direct connection with their car…perhaps a "drivers" option where they remove a layer of foam on the seat to give drivers a better "feel for the road"…. or perhaps in 10 years no one will know what I'm talking about…

There is definitely a resistance to complete change.

Koenigsegg is developing a MT for their 1,300+hp car. The new Pagani will have MT. Toyota is R&Ding a simulated MT for EV. Porsche is working on a synthetic fuel to keep the ICE feel in a vehicle alive.

Enthusiasm will live.

I won't quote some of the pseudo car aficionados here who don't know what a sports car is, but let me drop this here in the hope that you reconsider your silliness:

The fastest production car around the Nordschleife is the AMG One. It weighs 3700+ lbs. And it has a roof.

What the "TRACK MODE" doesn't do is disable crash detection. If you are going a certain speed and hit the brakes hard with a car a certain distance from you, the belt tightens and the windows go down. When you're going 120mph into a corner right on someone's ass, and threshold brake as late as possible, sometimes your windows will go up of you are too close to the car in front on the same line. Then you have to lower them on the next straight before I get black flagged.
