I pick my M240ix up tomorrow, and the xDrive is the primary reason I looked at this car to begin with, living up here in Maine. It's in a sweet spot performance-wise, priced well for what it is, and capable year-round.

I've had FWD on studded snows all my life so this will be an interesting change to AWD on studless snows (went with Blizzaks).
Congrats on picking up your new m240i ! So exciting! Yes, in the performance/dollar dept, it really is a great value. (At least by today's inflated prices, but that's a whole other thread that would just get deleted by the forum mods LOL)

Your new car on Blizzaks will be Amazing! Hope you will post some pictures, here or somewhere on the forum, when you have a chance. 👍

How about if I give you a reason to terrorize a parking lot. This is for science and safety(I'm sure a LEO will buy this excuse)! I find all my AWD cars with Blizzaks on them stop really well if using compression braking and light brake pressure. ABS systems always seem too sensitive in snow. Try downshifting. Find the sweet spot. Then start adding light brake pressure while at higher rpm. It's at least fun to practice.

I've used this excuse twice in the past after getting approached by the police. It 'worked' both times. I want my family to know what the car they are driving will do in adverse conditions before they get caught in adverse conditions.

My son and I took out the 230 this past weekend for the first time to see how it handled in the ice and snow. We got around 3" with some slush and ice underneath. The stock AS RF's impressed me, we had no trouble at all and enjoyed a lot of drifting and donuts.

xDrive was one of the reasons I chose my M240i over other options available.

I live in semi-rural Scotland, in a valley, where we get some interesting winters. 4WD was a must, really.

My order is arriving into the UK this week, and hopefully we'll get a bit more snow after it arrives so I can give it some testing, but having looked at videos online, the M240ix seems to do more than well enough in the kind of conditions I'd expect through winter here.

I know there will be purists that disagree, but for needs and intended use of the car, I think it'd be just about impossible to get a better car within my budget!

Yes! I don’t live in snow, but the reason I bought the car was the xDrive.

The other day I was soooo impressed with its abilities in the pouring rain. Testing its limits. This car is beyond better than anything else I’ve driven. I got a 0-60 in the pouring rain at 4.2. Lol.

I'm so jealous of everyone with a M240i that gets to play in the snow. Some of my favorite trips were in my STi in the snow, but now I can't justify the money for a set of winter wheels/tires that "may" get used 1 week out of the year "if" I manage to plan a mountain trip when the conditions are perfect.

Living in Canada and wanting to use the vehicle as a daily made XDrive a no brainer for us (albeit there was no RWD option at the time of order). We already have a SUV, and had an E46 as a secondary. With the latest addition, having two vehicles that we don’t have to worry about regardless of conditions has really been a game changer. No concerns at all taking the m240 anywhere during the winter between XDrive and winter Sottozero’s.

While performance on snow/ice conditions had blown us away … we’ve also had a blast turning off traction in empty parking lots after a heavy snowfall.

The G42 with XDrive really has been the best of both worlds!

Curious with all the snow stuck in the wheel if you felt any issues? e.g. balance, noise?

Great images!

That was a result of plowing through snow up to the top of the front bumper in the The Lodge parking lot (Cloudcroft, NM) after a blizzard. I was basically using the car as a snowplow to clear a path for others, including a F150 that couldn't make it through. The conditions where such that there was never enough speed to notice any issues with the snow in the wheels while driving around the small mountain village.

Thanks

Most of my vehicles have that snow stuck in the fender like that all winter long. No big deal. Eventually, you will hear the tire rubbing it so just kick it off. The nice cars get to go in the heated garage so it melts. My garage floor looks like crap all Winter long.

Update on this: Yesterday, the NE part of the US got hit with a decent snowstorm, though up my way it was a weird mix of freezing rain and snow. Needless to say, the roads were very much less than ideal. Under normal circumstances, I would've been stuck in my own driveway, like my landlord was.

However, this was not the case. I was not stuck whatsoever. These cars with xDrive are more than capable, and a bit of hooning was had at the exit of the local Home Depot parking lot, much to the delight of the dude in the wheel loader in an adjacent lot LOL. Dynamic traction mode is mint

"Interesting winters" 😃 Luv it! Yes, Scotland certainly does that. You live in a good area to test AWD cars. I'm sure many would agree that Scotland is an incredibly beautiful place. My wife and I love to watch "One Bike, One World" on Youtube. The guy is back home in Scotland for now, and showing a lot of the highways and byways of the country that most travel videos wouldn't capture. Truly an amazing landscape!

Post #31 may have the answer. However, not sure as that referenced the parking lot area.

This is the beginning of Imogene Pass (Ouray side) that connects Ouray, CO to Telluride. I couldn't go much further, maybe a mile or two, as the road is closed in winters, and in the summer requires 4x4 with good clearance and heavy ply tires. Highly recommend the area for a Jeep rental in the summer!

These were two different trips. For this trip I left my gf (now wife) and her girls in Angel Fire, NM to ski while I went driving for a few days. Had to justify the money I spent on winter tires.

Been thinking about doing that on my Adventure bike. And then maybe Last Dollar road in my Raptor so I can take my Mom for some scenic views. She lives in Montrose so it gives me a good home base to goof off in Colorado from.

I've done most of the passes in this area on a (carbureted) KTM 950 many years ago. That's always fun at 14K feet when it's jetted for 600 feet. I think the ideal bike for these passes would be a KTM 690 Enduro. Good balance of torque and weight.

I had an 07 990S. Sold it and bought a 890 Rally from Illinois. My buddy in Missouri picked it up and met me in Colorado. That's where I broke it in. He hadn't rode dirt since the early 90's so he wasn't in to too much adventure yet. Plus, the passes where still snowed in. Have you had the opportunity to try the WP "PRO" suspension? It's uncanny how fast you can ride a 450lb bike with it.
I can't imagine riding a poorly jetted bike thru technical stuff with cliffs on the side. You probably have some stories of that ride. Still have an Adv bike?

Don't think I've ever tried the White Power "PRO" suspension, but I never miss an opportunity to say the name instead of the acronym.

I got out of the bike game about 10 years ago, it was like Forest Gump when he was suddenly done with running. Maybe I'll pick it up again when I retire? I'm pissed at Central and South America for being so dangerous these days as I really wanted to ride a BMW GS Adventure down to the bottom.

Drove to work this morning at 4:30am on some back roads covered in snow. I hauled ass! X drive is amazing. Never felt safer in crappy conditions tbh. I turned of traction control for a bit- I have Sottozeros and can confirm the traction is all from the x drive lol.
