Going by 2019 figures, plenty of markets have a higher per-capita M market than the US (13 per 100,000 people): Germany (31 per 100,000), UK (26 per 100,000) and Switzerland (22% of all BMW sales, 63 per 100,000) amongst others.

I only used 2019 for the per-capita analysis as it had more detailed info available. It sounds as though China is now the #1 market for M on a volume basis, but the US has never been close to #1 on a per-capita basis.

Who cares about per capita, actual number of M cars sold in each country is a better indicator. In that aspect US is the largest single market.

I agree "per Capita" is pointless, the sheer volume means more $. If a country has 2 people and both of those people buy M cars that's 100% per Capita. Per Capita is much more effective for comparing rate of crime or illness.

Sorry, I leapt to conclusions that you had meant the US based on the previous discussion on US market size.

The sales figures don't bear out as Canada having the highest per capita M ownership, though. Total 2022 BMW vehicle sales in Canada were 27,866, or 73 per 100,000 population. In Switzerland where BMW M sales are quoted as the highest proportion of total BMW sales in the world at 22%, the total BMW sales of 19,685 gave a per capita rate of 225 per 100,000 population for BMW, or 50 per 100,000 for M vehicles.

Canada would have needed to sell 68% of all BMWs as M vehicles to reach the Swiss per-capita rate of M car sales.

I know he quoted "ownership" as the highest per-capita rate in Canada vs sales, but the gap just seems too large to be higher than Switzerland. Perhaps he meant to say highest per-capita ownership in North America?
