imagine if people said "i'd never buy a 4 cylinder car" when the E30 M3 came out.

The problem is, no one did buy it when it came out. Now it is highly regarded, but it was a big failure when it was first released.

Our group has several Porsche stores. In fact we have one within blocks of our BMW store. I have driven many of them. Sorry, but it is horrible in my book.

Cool, so you've liked, moved them around the lot? Got some gas? Drove to a customer's house to drop it off? Makes you the definitive expert then, don't it?

You don't have to apologize to me, I wouldn't own the 2.0 either but it's not because it's "horrible". That's a ridiculous take and I think deep down you know it.

Almost as ridiculous as, IDK, lugging a car in 4th gear at 30mph and wondering why it feels sluggish?

Kidding aside, the 2.0 cars are probably some of the absolute best bargains in the sports car world right now, and it's largely because of takes like this.

Why are you so mad that people accustomed to inline-6 turbo engines hate some soulless VAG group 4 banger? Get a hobby man.

Point on the doll where the 4 cylinder touched you.

Also you still haven't responded- why are you so mad about a 4 cylinder sports car when you apparently have never even owned... an actual sports car?

I'm the one who's mad? I'm not the one who "hates" anything. I get pretty annoyed when people feel compelled to sound off about something for no real reason. My man the OP is considering a 4 cylinder Porsche, he doesn't need some guy with a fake M car and a sporty station wagon talking about how much he hates it.

Let that marinate for a minute and get back to me.

This man 😂😂😂

I’ve driven the 718 in almost all forms: Cayman, Boxster, Boxster S, Boxster GTS, and Cayman GT4. The Boxsters I had for over a week each. I guess I’m not allowed to form an opinion on any of those cars because I didn’t buy them? 😂😂😂

You missed the point so I'll spell it out.

It doesn't feel very good when someone trashes cars you selected to own for no real reason, does it?

Could you elaborate why you want the world to know you hate 4 cylinders but apparently drive them a bunch for some reason? Do you genuinely think it's helpful to trash an objectively good engine that someone is considering? Serious question.

None of the above. I am a senior BMW client advisor and have the availability to pull one of the 718 service loaners for a weekend if I so choose or if I want to take one longer I can pull one from our preowned inventory.

Good thing you have a GTS 4.0 and not the 2.0 or the 2.5? Enjoy your car and let us enjoy ours. Porsche forums are that way ----->

Good cop out, second one on this forum in less than a week. The fact remains that by any measurable standard, any 4 cylinder 718 will be an objectively better driving experience than any car in your sig.

Now if you could only follow your own advice I'd feel some sense of meaning from this encounter. Unless what you mean by "enjoying your car" is trashing other cars. Because that's all I've taken away from this conversation.

Lol. I wiped plenty of retired dentists in their Caymans and 911s when I used to run my 1LE at Sebring. Stay mad

If it is between the M2 vs the Base Cayman then I would go with the M2. If you go for the GTS 4.0 or higher then I would go for the Cayman. I am in the same boat and that is the strategy I am going with.

I made this post to see which car to choose but when I see the owners of the M2s it makes me consider the porsche even more. They are very inviting people.

Enjoy. That 5am Porsche cars and coffee crowd is a real enticing bunch to hang out with. You can all talk to each other about how you optioned the $4,000 power seats in slightly different stitching.

I get reminded every time I come back here of the very same. That said, Rennlist can be a true shitshow as well.

But at least you don't have gen z lot attendants bragging about lap times in their Camaros! I can promise you that.

Sadly I was 23. Couldn't afford to take over the loan payments even if I wanted to go slower on the track.

718 4.0 GTS or above is the only one worth getting over the M2. I wouldn't bother with anything less than a flat six engine (i.e proven design).

Double edge sword there as both groups, Porsche and BMW are eerily similar.

So now that you're 25 and you've got your sweet new-ish Audi and/or non-M 2 series you're running with the big boys in GT3s and Lambos I'd imagine?
