Damn impressive! Unlike many other previous M2C owners (I’ve owned one for 3 years), I’m really happy to see the power curve being linear, making peak power near the redline, this is how it should be!

Wondering what is that dip in power around 6250rpm? That’s a weird dip so high in the rev range on a stock map.

Under-rated as usual :) [Road & Track]

https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a4...m2-dyno-video/

Seems the M2, like every other BMW of the turbo era, is substantially under-rated.

R&T dyno'd one and it made 469 rwhp - likely around 530 crank horsepower. 7.1 lbs/hp is pretty solid.

Also, R&T enjoyed the car on track as well:

I think I read somewhere that BMW M managed to bring the drivetrain loss down to a single digit, so if that's true, it's less of a "underrated horsepower" and more of a smaller gap between whp and crank horsepower (aka puts the power down with minimal loss). Still impressive.

R&T found 16 more rhwp than rated hp. Even with low driveline loss it is certainly under-rated.

Plus, much of driveline loss is accelerating the mass of the driveline itself, not just the internal friction. As cars get more powerful and require more robust drivelines, the more heavier hardware offsets some of the gains from reduced resistance. Even a 10% driveline loss would be pretty impressive and I'd be surprised if the new M2 made less than 500 bhp.

Cars like the M4CSL and M5 (F30 and one) are easily 700 hp machine and the rest of the M cars are very powerful as well.

I like underrating, personally. Reminds me of the 70's American muscle era. That 426 Hemi had its advertised ratings, but what it did to destroy all competitors told another story.

I totally agree!

Also on the M2 dyno sheet, peak power is up around 6700-6900 RPMs during their runs - good incentive to really rev the engine. Seems like the M division also built fun into the engine’s power delivery and this version of the S58 encourages you to operate it.

the thing with dyno numbers is you can make them say whatever you want. its really only useful for before and after mods to check the net change. or getting two cars on the same dyno the same day .

we need to see 1/4 mile and trap speed data.

i think joe achilles got a 11.9 with his vbox on a less than ideal road
last m2cs got 11.7 with car and driver.

Having to drive my S54 Z4MC up in the 7-8K range is part of its appeal. I get what they're doing here. I love ringing that thing out. I can't wait to do the same to my G87.

"Ideal road" is very vague. I'm 90% sure he was on bush hwy. C&D wouldn't beat 11.9 with the m2cs on the same strip.

It was significantly downhill and it was Joe though.

I think it’ll go pretty well when the pros get to it as it looks to have great traction and a better launch control than older models.

“Results above omit 1-ft rollout of 0.2 sec”

Not sure if the vbox does or not. My dragy doesn’t.

As a bias F87 junkie, I'd be lying if I said I didn't envy the 460 horsies in stock form.

God demmit if only it wasn't so dedicated to its Optimus prime looking boxy figure. A conundrum indeed.
