But the fact that the interior is smaller and you have less trunk space than the F87, the car is smaller than the G8X m3/4 but it weighs more than some of the RWD configurants of the bigger car? Trash.

Better ways to spend 70k in my opinion unless you just have to have the car and its Japanese styling visually appeals to you
“Japanese styling…”. I was JUST thinking about this earlier today/yesterday reading a a 80/90s JDM article… and I remember stopping and thinking “hmm… the new M2 is reminiscent of these 80s and 90s JDM cars… I wonder if I’m the only one that thinks that?”

Most of the people singing the praises of the G87 aren't owners.

But you? You own the now-outdated F87. And that's fine. It's a great car. Enjoy it. But for you to imply that somehow YOU'RE the one with an objective perspective while fans of the G87 are deluding themselves and failing to see the truth? That's fucking rich.

Blah blah. You can't tell someone they're wrong about an opinion. It's just that and it's neither correct or incorrect.

As an f87 owner I'm not a fan of the g87 in the looks department. However, I've said before that I think there will be a version that looks dynamite. All it needs is a big front splitter and the integrated rear wing. It will take the blockiness and stretch it out a bit. For the love of god BMW create a carbon package and a package for those that want to abuse their cars (Plastic front lip). I love the carbon splitter but it's expensive to repair an/or replace. At some point I'll get a csr splitter and have it dipped in a carbon pattern. No hate for the g87. Congrats to those getting them. Enjoy those interior creature comforts.

I have NO idea how people see JDM in this. Someone needs to show me a Japanese car with a rectangular design language, round corners, long hood, flared haunches, and flat face.

If I had to pick something, I think it's closer to old American than anything else. 1990s Pontiac, Grand Am, maybe. Late model GTO.

Huh. Yeah, if this car looks like anything, it's a modern version of old American muscle. Dual split grill, two headlights. If you brought this car into the past and showed it to me in 2004, and said "this what the GTO evolved into in about 20 years," I would have looked at and said "sure, I buy that, in the front at least."

Maybe that's why I like it. I like its simpler, more aggressive vibe.

Also see: 1970s Skyline.

Instead of 80's-90's JDM maybe think of m3's from that era.

GTR is pretty blocky. Its on my consideration list. A neighbor has one and it looks great.

GTR is the Godzilla, sure. But IMO it looks nothing like the M2. There's not a single straight line or rectangle on the whole car, and the fenders are pulled way in, to give it a streamlined look. It looks like it was carved out of a bar of soap.

And I mean, it's dead sexy car, but the design language is totally different.

I’ve been saying for months it looks like a Gundam. It was designed with a certain market in mind.

It is ugly. And OP posting a long comment with pictures from ridiculous MySpace angles doesn’t change that

Also I now realize how BORING the rear fenders of the GTR are, and now I can't unsee it. Now I need to go look at some 911s to get some rear fender candy.

I can live with most of it but where the bump meets the hood.

The design made the top of the bump look like hump also the line above headlight look off to me.

These made the frontend look like aftermarket bumper

i think it has potential. but would need different bumpers front and rear and a different tail light design for me to dump the f87c.

i do get some japanese vibes if you remove the front grill. frank stephenson did it in his m240 video. without the grill it looks like a toyota front end. the headights lack the typical bmw 4 angel eyes.

But to be clear, the hood line has been above the grill since the F30 (circa 2012), this isn't new. It's not a G87 thing, it's a BMW thing.

LOL, sure if you photoshop it into an entirely different car it does in fact look like a different car. Can't argue with that.

I don't remember that transition being so prominent in person, hoping my dealer has their HEA on Saturday so I can go down and see.

The transition right B4 the rear fender flair has a similar effect in photos, but looks completely cohesive in person. I suggest going to see one.

Another M thing they deleted with this design is that all M front fenders have the trapezoidal lower. This one just has a rectangle. I'm not a staunch BMW purist, but that along with the M mirrors was always an M specific design feature. Now the M mirrors are on my X3 M40 for instance along with about a thousand M badges.

I checked this in person. There is no bump. The angle of the hood flows directly into the front end.

Saw for the first time today in person, the front lower cooling intake is insanely wide open. I guess they engineered it properly but it is wild to see.

If 15 paragraphs are needed to convince people the car isn’t ugly, I’ve got bad news; the car is ugly.

IMO, it’s the bumpers committing the worst crimes here. And the 3,800 lb weight is ridiculous; heavier than a 5 series used to be. Though I do suppose BMW deserves a pat on the back for offering this in RWD/6MT format.

God help us when the M2 is only offered with an auto and xDrive. You’ll have a 4,000 lb 2’er on your hands.

I have been a fan of the chunky design and normal sized kidney grills, but also respected some of the dislike for the front and rear corners. I spent some time with a BG M2 today, and I agree with everyone else who has seen one up close, that the car looks fantastic and the proportions are really good. What is hard to appreciate in photos is how wide the wheel arches are, and in person the transition from the wide arches to the front and rear looks a lot more natural.
