Dumbest part about the car IMO. MT with a proper handbrake shouldn't be that hard to manufacture.

It does work in my car, it also has a version of auto hold that allows drive-off with the brake applied without manually disengaging it. The only thing I would also like is the ability to release the parking brake without starting the engine, just powering on the car without starting into Drive-ready state and pressing on the brake pedal won't allow manual release of the parking brake to allow the car to roll without the engine running (such as when I want to roll out from the garage on to the driveway and not start the car).

Have you tried putting the car in diagnostic mode (pushing the start-stop button 3 times without holding the clutch down) and trying to deactivate the e-brake?

I haven't tried diagnostic mode to release the brake yet, will see if that works.

I have been in other cars where you can configure the electronic parking brake to engage automatically when parked. Granted this was in an automatic car so the car had a clear indicator (being in park) of when to engage it. During my first week of ownership, the P-brake would energize whenever I parked my MT car and placed the gearbox in 1st or reverse.

Now, regardless of the gear I park in, I have to apply the P-brake manually.

Plus, the car has to be in the drive-ready state to disable the P-brake...either by depressing the button, or drive off.

Hill-hold still works as it should.

Frankly, I prefer that I have to enable the P-Brake myself, but I'm curious why the auto-enable function stopped working after 1-week?

No sure if I'll have the dealer look into this at my next scheduled service.

So much this, I wanted to roll my car out of the garage to spray it down and could not find a way to disengage the brake. I eventually had to travel all the way back into the house for the key. FWP!

I didn’t configure anything, but being used to electric parking brakes on European cars in general, I don’t bother releasing the brake manually when I drive off, as they all auto-release, so that may be the difference in what I’m doing compared with if the brake is manually released and set.

Mine does this still. Strange yours would stop. I can’t find any settings for it so you’re probably correct, it’s a glitch. I do recall reading in the physical manual that this is how it should work.

Ha ha, I only act the age of one. In the winter when I work in the garage that doubles as my workshop/machine shop I need more space, so tne BMW and Porsche go on the driveway. It is bad practice to start then stop the engine for such a short time, especially when it is -30C, so I try to drive at least 10km when it is cold to fully warm the oil before shutting the car off again.

Mine never auto engages, one of my gripes, but it does always auto disengage.
