I can only imagine… 😢

I’ll have to do European delivery on a Porsche GT to have that type of experience moving forward

Absolutely fantastic writeup!

I've had the SAME problems with picture orientation lately in here. The system needs a "rotate photo" button.

I've been there twice for European Delivery.

Wish BMW still offered that opportunity.

In the meantime, I await my TR M2, which just entered production this week!

It's on my list too. Porsche now charges for it...$1500, but at that point who cares, as long as they keep it around. I'm guessing it won't survive their full EV move.

Thx...I think it has to do with the fact the system now automatically reduces the size of the photos for you. I used to have to cut them down in size. Now I don't, but it rotates them.

Correct, we do a scouting drive, then go back and get out and look at the section. In the get out and walk about park they let us park backward on it, when we're practicing the section, we drive on the high side.

BMW throws down great adventures for customers. Envious that you get to do them.

G87, well, still uninspiring to me. But there's no better way to experience such cars than at the Ring.

They really do an amazing job. It's pricey but still a better value than the offerings from Porsche or Mercedes. You also get to get fairly close to what the cars can do - much more so than you'd ever be able to do on your own during the Touristenfahrten, although that's a lot of fun just as an experience.

It is great getting to go backwards on the Ring!

A couple other things I'd add to the review. I had no issues whatsoever with the ZF8. I did, however, find the lack of a knee pad/rest next to my right knee really annoying. And if it there is one there, it was wholly inadequate.

Great write up, thanks!

I just did my first Ring experience last month. Did a Ring Taxi lap in the M5 CS. What a beast! Did 4 laps in a 230i rented from Apex, one with an instructor. Enlightening. I will definitely be back, the track is incredible. Must be amazing to drive without TF traffic.

I had the same SIXT rental: X530d on winters. Fantastic cruiser. Those winter tires really sucked though. But I’d take that on winters vs some Skoda Enyaq on real tires.

Also, was it this Moritz? https://www.moritzkranz.de/home-en/coaching/

Thanks again!

So, I got an interesting update from a German colleague on the tires. Apparently, Germany changed the laws recently and made the rental companies responsible for having the cars properly equipped for winter. Ever since, I'm told they just order the cars with the winters. What a shame. Different Moritz, but he would make for an interesting instructor!

[QUOTE=Fugly M3;30306097]I just spent 3 days in the new M2 at the Ring with BMW. A fairly detailed journal awaits below. It's long. It will excite some of you, please some of you and surely piss some of you off. Oh well, enjoy.

Attachment 3227861

After a five-year hiatus, much of which was due to covid, I finally had the chance to get back to the Nürburgring with BMW for 3 days of Nordschleife trainings in the new M2. This is a trip that Donnie Isley (BMWPC) has been organizing for 15 years and I’ve been 3 times to the Ring with him and 3 times to Ice Driving in Sweden, with some domestic stuff mixed in there as well. The Ring training runs as two days of sectional training with laps at the end of the day and one day of lapping. In the past, there was a two day lapping option, but BMW has ceased to offer that option, so 3 days total is the best you can get.

Departure Day and Day 1

I left for Munich on Thursday June 22nd on LH 453 direct from LAX. Flight was a tad bumpy with one good drop. LH’s premium economy isn’t as good as others and I’m annoyed I stuck with my offer instead of just paying the fixed price. Oh well. Arrived afternoon of the 23rd, checked into Le Meridien next to the train station got a quick workout (amazing and empty 17M pool) in to clear the flight shit, and it was off to beverages and local fare.

Day 2

Saturday morning, we left the hotel around 9 and headed for the Sixt Munich Sendling branch to pick up our rental cars. Hot tip, picking up here and returning to MUC [...]

Thanks so much for sharing. What an amazing experience!!

It's a plate that lets other drivers know you need viagra!

Joking aside, it's one of the coolest souvenirs a car enthusiast could ever get. See below...you may have seen either of these configurations. The first being the ED plate and the second being a tool putting your US plate over it to let everyone know they aren't as cool.

The reddish portion on the right signifies it's a tourist plate and the date (non-US format) is the expiration. Mine expired on November 5, 2016. ED was October 10, 2016.

Thanks for the great explanation.
Definately agree a perfect souvenir to hang in the garage.
The plate on the plate really made me laugh.

I wonder if that was a joke the Engineers left in there. So good. There must be Screenshots of it *floating* around somewhere online.

Thanks for this fantastic write up, it’s helped me make up my mind…2024 i’m going!
I already have a day at Spa booked in September in my M2CS so this sounds like the perfect way to build up some confidence at the ring. I had been hesitating about the price but YOLO and I’m lucky to live only an hour away from the track so it’s nothing like you guys in the US have to go through!!
I look forward to some great memories like this, if anyone is heading there in 2024 get in touch, I’ve got a friend with a GT3 992 who is going to book as well so we can definitely go explore the countryside around the track too 😎
