Went out for ice cream with my wife tonight, which was a lot of fun. Prayed with my Dad for his hurt knee, he fell again while up in the mountains.

We finally made it to Asheville about 1/2 hour ago.
Todays ride was bad. The last ride from here to FL was really bad. Hopefully that means the law of averages owes us an easy ride home at the end of August

We sometimes leave on the weekend and sometimes during the week - depends on my wife’s PTO availability. If we leave on a workday, we hit might traffic in Jacksonville, Savannah and especially Columbia, SC of all places, which we hit at rush hour. (I-26 is a mess.). We also hit traffic getting into Asheville, especially on a Friday evening. Weekends are hit or miss. Unfortunately, as early as I can is a couple of hours before as early as my wife and dogs can so I’m happy if we can get on the road before 9.

The problem in Savannah is usually the bottleneck going over the bridge into South Carolina, where I-95 narrows down from 4 lanes into 2 lanes. I-26 is a mess with ongoing construction around Columbia. I assume that they have finished up the big I-26 construction project up by Greenville, since it looked almost ready to open when I went through there a year ago.
How much longer is it for you to take I-75 through Atlanta????

I am familiar with the 3 to 2 lane change and ready to deal with it, but the last 2 trips have been slowed by major accidents. On the ride home last month, we decided to get off I-95 near Hilton Head and stop for lunch and then let Google take us through local roads South to Pooler where we got back on I-95 a few hundred yards past the accident. We saw the remnants of a tractor trailer fire and traffic stopped for as long as the eye could see. I think I-26 between Columbia and Asheville will be under construction for years in various spots. If we didn’t have the dogs we would fly more often.

We like US-321 from Hardeeville/Savannah up to I-26 in Columbia. One lane each way and several towns, but the whole thing has a Route 66 vibe.....

Now that looks interesting. Slower pace, but more direct / cuts miles so only adds about 30 minutes in google maps.
