This race was pretty much what we ought to expect with the M240 taking the initial lead due to AWD traction and then the M2 would reel it in later. The only thing that surprised me was the reeling in took longer than expected and the 1/4 mile was insufficient distance for the M2 to beat the M240. Sam mentioned that he couldn't invoke any wheel spin in the M2 at the start, thus could not get best start possible. Maybe there was something wrong with the M2's launch control?

AWD isn't going anywhere and will only be available on more and more cars in the future. Manual transmissions are going to be gone (on obtainable new cars) probably in less than 10 years. That's the big difference in my opinion.

It is easy for me to justify my M2 purchase because it's a true M car, vs an "M-sport" 240i that you could do all the bolts-on in the world and still not be a true M car. When I had my 135i, I didn't go into the 1M forums telling them that the 1M was hard to justify.

I literally have a G87 on the way (built and waiting on a boat) and have never and would never buy a G42. But go off there bud.

I like how when the 240i was tuned to 460, the M2 still spanked it, meaning, it makes way more than 460 hp. And it what, supposedly weighes more as well?

xDrive, Eventuri intake, Remus exhaust, lowered stiffer suspension for better wheel grip, etc on the AutoID M240 so although entertaining…this was a predictable video even with the JB4 “turned off”.

I am still impressed with the M2 keeping up with the tuned M240 off the line and of course it will pull in the roll with the S58.

RWD M240 stock vs stock M2 would’ve been a better comparison, but then the M2 would obviously win the drag and roll so I get why Carwow did this for the entertainment value.

Both cars are great in their own segment.

And there we go! M240i looks better and is the winner FTM! Note, the M2 still makes more BHP than the M240i (without ethanol or race gas) with the box. They’re probably up ~50 whp (from stock) with the intake, exhaust, and box with standard petrol.

BMW certainly underrates the hp for the m2 as much as the m240- the m2 should still have greater bhp.

That’s because it’s not 460 bhp stock, while the m240i with the box is closer to its number (450 bhp). The m2 is closer to 500+ bhp. But yeah the s58 has more potential without replacing internals, turbos, etc. What pisses me off is the fact it’s 35 kg heavier despite only driving its rear wheels. They better trim some fat from the upcoming CS.

Running on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

Now the car was running with the box tuned off in the first run. I would suspect it's running closer to around 390-400hp with the intake, downpipe and exhaust on their own. The box tuned on probably adds another 50-60hp, as Nathan mentioned in the video.

Regardless of those numbers, the performance from the M240i is dead impressive and it's still the better daily. The 4WD traction makes that car quicker on road and the ride quality is a lot nice, the suspension is noticeably softer. The M2 is much more dialled in though a feels faster because its much more on its toes and on the edge. Anyway, before I go off on a tangent, it was a fun race.

^this is money. I think the b58 would be better suited for the manual with two less gears as well. The powerband is wider. I’m hitting 450 ft lbs. (with my box) at only 2,500 rpm (500 ft lbs by 3,500).

The M2 was keeping up with the M240i when the piggyback was not in power mode. The M240i was running in stock power mode at the beginning.

When the M240i has the power turned up, it destroyed the M2 off the line as expected.

In a rolling race with similar hp, the M240i will lose. Ther is more power loss from the xDrive, running on 2 differentials instead of 1 on the RWD M2.

I will still get the G87 M2 because of
1. 6MT (most important)
2. S58
3. Suspension tuning from M
4. Looks more aggressive
