The Tickle Charger is capable to generate 3-5A .. if doors are open an Car ist constantly in "ready-to-switch-igniton-on", Seats are moved, Windows opened an closed... car/ Battery needs a charge up to 20A.. and minimum 8-10A.. so Tickle Charger is the wrong product to use.... so Shop Owes you a new Battery

So I’m having PPF and CC done as soon as I get my M2. Should I just have them disconnect the battery to prevent this?

No, with a healthy battery it should not be an issue.

My partners G29 said ‘replace battery’ on the instrument cluster but it was the key fob battery and not the vehicle battery that needed replacing.

Update

I went to the dealership today regarding the "replace battery" warning light...they tested the battery and said it was fine. They cleared the warning light and sent me on my way.

That's good news. I was afraid the battery had been drained when the car was being worked on. But apparently not.

I really like BMW of Dallas. My sales person is great and the service center has always treated us fairly.

how annoying with a new car.

so is there any downside to leaving the trickle charger on this car the entire winter?

I’ve done it for 4 years on 2 M240 cars without issues. Both cars still rocking factory battery.

I just went through this. Same exact situation. But my car always started like normal. I had my dealer reset the light. No problem. My battery was never low enough to not start. I haven't had a problem since.

Currently have this issue after getting my car back from PPF. They had it for 4 weeks.

Car has not had any problems starting and I even got it fully charged with a trickle charger. Any way to clear this myself as I still have 1100 miles to go for my break in service and would rather avoid a trip to the dealer until then.

Bimmer Link is what you are looking for. I've never used it, but heard others talking about it.
If I were you though, I would just go to the dealer. They will likely test your battery and let you know if it's OK. Having a dying battery can cause all kinds of weird problems with BMW, and batteries die all the time.

When I took my car in for the battery issue, they told me that I could get the 1200 mile service done (at that time or schedule it for a later date) because the car told them that it was time. I only had around 200-300 miles on the car at that time. I decided to wait a bit (at ~700 miles), but I was shocked that I could have done that service so early.

Agree. A bit of a shock (surprise) that the run in service could be would be done with ~300 miles on the car.

I've set an appointment with the dealer for next week and will try and plan my PPF follow up appointment after it since they're really close.

I have the adapter for Bimmerlink / Bimmercode on the way but I agree, probably best to just have the dealer handle it.

The warning message is super annoying because it it gets in the way of you changing your song from the steering wheel, and pops back up after 5 seconds.

Apologies for reviving a slightly old thread.

UK owner here and we have the exact same problem. The M2 was 3 weeks old and covered 69 miles and whilst it was being ceramic coated and some PPF added, the 'Replace Battery' warning came on even though the battery was connected to a CTEK MXS 5.0 battery charger whenever the car was stationery. The car starts fine and drives fine without any issue, so in my tiny mind that tells me the battery is ok. However, what do I know??

Anyway we spoke to the supplying dealer and they say it needs a new battery as the warning will not disappear until a new battery is fitted. I cannot see how they cannot just code out the warning??

It's now booked in for diagnostics on Tuesday 11 June, which the Sales Manager has said he will absorb the cost of this from the workshop and hopefully we will then be told either it's fine or a replacement battery is needed?

I cannot believe this would happen on a 3 week old car with just 69 miles.

They claim to have connected it to a trickle charger. If that is true, I wonder what happens to all of the people up north who store their cars for the winter and use a trickle charger to keep the battery alive.
Trickle chargers are just that a trickle charger. When the doors are open or the key is in close proximity the car can’t go into hybernation mode. People that store their car on a trickle charger don’t leave the door open or the key inside the vehicle. Very generalize example - trickle charger can provide 10W of power. When vehicle is in hybernation mode it pulls 5W. Trickle charger can cover the parasitic drain. When not in hybernation mode, the vehicle pulls 20W. The trickle charger can’t cover the parasitic drain and the remainder is being pulled from the battery slowly depleting it. Sounds like the last scenario is what your car experienced.

Read a reply by Rx-7ames in which he reported taking his car in and having the low battery warning reset. Said other than the low battery warning light being on the battery didn't appear to cause any other symptoms.

Not sure if the above is sufficient to challenge the dealer on its stating the battery needs to be replaced. I mean if all that needs to be done is to reset the warning and yet the dealer claims a new battery is required -- assuming the battery was not tested and found deficient/defective -- do you really want to continue to do business with this dealer's service department?

If possible maybe you want to get a 2nd opinion from another dealer?

A new battery that has been fully flattened for one reason or another while the car is waiting for delivery can be problematic. In the cold climate I live in (can get down to -40C in the winter), it is not uncommon for the local BMW dealer to put in a new battery before delivery due to the factory supplied battery having being flattened while the car is stored in an outside car park.
