Once the motor is warmed up and you're past the 600 miles, you shouldn't have issues pushing the car a little, obviously don't redline the thing but you're not hurting your car by going over 6K RPM at that point.
How close can I get to WOT if I’m pulling in like 4th? I have to be honest, I’ve been close lol.

The throttle mapping is a little more like the representation in this image, from what I can tell.
How is WOT after 600 miles? I got close to that pulling in 4th and now I’m worried I messed it up lol. It was brief.

I mean, as long as you're not hitting the red line, although it does say explicitly not to go full throttle. I would just hold off until 1200 miles then after the service, warm up the motor and send it.

I got real close too, I wouldn’t worry about it. I think the WOT they were talking about was Kickdown. That I didn’t do.

You’ll be happy to know mine still works just fine. 3rd gear in the upper rpm’s pulls like a MF.

Oh yeah today was the first time I saw the lights as well! I hit 6500k on “accident” so I guess almost redline once but not WOT. I don’t think once until this whole time I broke rules until today with almost WOT and seeing the shift lights LOL.

Ever since 600 miles I’ve been trying to really give her beans whilst not launching much and staying within break in parameters. I figure she needs more heat cycles since I really babied her up until 600 miles.

I did take a Supra from rolling 2nd gear to gapplebeas hours ago. My break in service is Friday.

What’s the problem with service over 1200 miles? Just a fact of life I can’t be that precise with being at what someone mentioned + or - 50. I’m at 1425 and have service scheduled Wednesday.

I think 1200 is just maxed engine break out as to when you need to replace all of your liquids that are probably filled with metal shavings and loads of yucky new engine stuff.

IMO engine is done breaking around 600-900. 1200 is just to make sure so bmw can save money on warranty claims. Anything past 1200 without liquid replace is not the best in the engine.

Average speed of a passenger vehicle is ~30mph. So 1200 miles represents 40 hours of engine run time.

For the majority of car owners the engine in 40 hours of run time has been subjected to a (good enough) mix of driving to have the break in advanced enough there has been some degradation to the oil. Yet the oil (and filter) still have some margin.

But one can't know for sure how advanced break in is. (Lab and field tests have found break in continues for some considerable number of miles beyond the nominal break in miles.) Still having the run in service done at or close to 1200 miles is best.

And while I have not found anything official on this if there is some factory recognized range of miles to have the running in service done to stay within that range.

Might add my SOP is to have the engine oil/filter service done -- on my own dime -- at around 600 miles then have the oil/filter service done at the end of break in, again on my own dime, unless this is part of any free service -- and the M2 is the only car I have owned that the factory covers an end of break in, a running in, service under warranty. Have done this for a number of cars/vehicles over the years including my M2. Will do it for my 2024 230i xDrive.

Resurrecting this to see how your break in service went? I had tried to get it in this week which would put me right around 1150, but no local dealer could get me in until next week. I have a long drive Monday and will likely be north of 1300 by the time I bring it for the break in service.

I haven’t read about too many folks going beyond the 1200 miles so I’m just wondering if there are any headaches I can expect to deal with.

My dealer said anything under or over 1200 by 150mi is fine.
I thought I remember them saying if you go over by 200mi, the car is no longer CPO-eligible.

I feel like this is a pretty big deal - there was no dealership available to me last week, so I’ll likely end up having around 1300 miles when I bring it in on Tuesday. To have a car lose its CPO status because of that is crazy

I asked my Serv. Director about this. He said...basically, stay real close to that 1,200 miles...meaning by not going over much at all. It goes on record and thus affect the car later with value, proper upkeep by owner, etc, etc.
He never mentioned anything about how soon "before" the 1,200 mile mark it can be done. I will ask him this coming week. My best "car guy" thought would be that 1,300 is enough. I wouldn't push it past that. IMHO.

Well it feels kinda shitty that I tried the last 2 weeks to schedule the service at my local dealers, but they were not available the days I was. The soonest I could get in is Tuesday, but I need to drive my car to work tomorrow.

So am I losing value on my car by driving it to work since the two local dealers were too busy?

It has no impact on the value of your car. You can get the run in service done anywhere between 900 and 1500 miles.

Right on, this type of range makes a lot more sense. Thanks man

Is this the actual final answer? Straight from BMW? Some dealers say no later than 1,400mi (the 2 local to me both said 1,400mi max before losing CPO eligibility.) Be nice to actually know the real answer.

Yeah 100%. I will get in there with around 1325 miles tomorrow, and I’ll be sure to ask them.

I got the service done, there was nothing said about it being too late or no longer qualifying for CPO/extended warranties. I was right at 1325.
