I already put nitrogen in my tires months ago at Costco, for free, and the tire pressure has been extremely stable in temperatures between 0 and 50F. So congrats on winning an internet argument, I guess?

Obviously not scientifically measured. You would also need to monitor tyre temperature and pressure change, besides ambient temp.

If you can disprove nitrogen doesn’t closely follow the Ideal Gas Law with a properly peer reviewed paper, you could pay off any loan on the G87 with the $1m Nobel Prize Award

Two weeks ago it was 10C here with tyre heating up to 20C with steady highway speeds, it was close to -40C here a few days ago. Nitrogen or dry air filled tyres would have dropped from 2.4bar to 1.7bar without increasing the pressure in them (as I did), I wouldn’t call that ‘practically stable’.

Costco marketing is good at getting people to drop by to add nitrogen for free and buy other stuff.

Bet. Tell you what. You drive to Denver and I’ll give you my keys and address. You can go deflate my tires and put regular air in them. Let me know via DM.

Thanks for the offer, but I don’t have that sort of time to waste, much that I like the Denver area, but I’m sure you must be capable of doing that yourself?

Nah. I’m good with nitrogen in my tires, but you seem hellbent on continuing this discussion. You must not have anything else to do in Calgary since it’s -50F. Try some new hobbies.

I have plenty of hobbies thanks. Quite happy to multi-task on Internet chat groups between the hobby work, while doing more important things, such as watching TV,

This means that P∝T.

It is then easy to compare absolute temperatures and pressures, bearing in mind the actual pressure is the measured tyre pressure plus atmospheric pressure, the actual temperature is relative to absolute zero, so is best calculated in Kelvin.

293K / 20°C / 68°F at an absolute pressure of 3.40bar (measured 2.40bar / 34.8PSI at sea level), equates to:

313K / 40°C / 104°F at an absolute pressure of 3.63bar (measured 2.63bar / 38.1PSI at sea level)

273K / 0°C / 32°F at an absolute pressure of 3.17bar (measured 2.17bar / 31.4PSI at sea level)

233K / -40°C / -40°F at an absolute pressure of 2.70bar (measured 1.70bar / 24.7PSI at sea level)
Don’t confuse him with science. Middle school egos are easily bruised.

Some posters are full of hot air, the less relevant are full of hot nitrogen.

I’m uncertain if you belong in the “some” or “less relevant” group but vulgarity is unseemly. Perhaps Bimmerpost will dispatch a NM (Nurse Moderator) with some lidocaine to treat your exposed nerve.

Have a nice day, bud. I’m still not going to deflate the nitrogen out of my tires.
