For daily get the G87.
For weekend, F87 is more thrilling, raw and that DCT.

G87 > F87. It's that good.

I loved the F87, but it never interested me when I looked at a few years back, but just took delivery of the G87 a few weeks ago. It's a great daily and can't wait to start tuning it. Going with the Valvetronic single midpipe as my first mod, which will address the sound issue.

Honestly, anybody ragging on the M2 for its "looks" are just F87 owners pissed that most people can't distinguish between an F-series m240i and M2. I love the fact that BMW took the time to make the new M2 unique and look like German muscle.

I'm not going to mention styling or performance. The G87 brand new is roughly $10k more than a 4 year old F87. You get a warranty and a brand new unmolested car with the G87. However if you calculate the depreciation per year on the F87 it starts to look interesting for long term owners.

Yea I’ve noticed that too
I wonder if it’s because there is less inventory of the F87.

Maybe, there are lots of potential reasons but this is the G87 forum so I don’t want to cause trouble

time will tell, but i have a feeling that G87 residuals will mirror F87 Comp residuals going forward (barring some insane facelift that renders them obsolete like the OG M2). theres a ton of F87s on the market being the most produced M car of all time (for now!)

reflective of overall soft market IMHO.... the audi dealers who previously laughed at my MSRP request for an RS3 have been leaving me voicemails lately too!

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you, but how was the OG M2 rendered obsolete?

I traded my 7 year old 2017 which isn't even LCI for $17,500 less than I bought it for. Private sale would have been even better.

Do you want the mega motor, the twin turbo S58 found in the G87? The S58 is capable of 700 hp with bolt-ons and potentially a mega 1000 hp. Or do you prefer an older, slower experience out of warranty?

I was debating this myself before i went with the G87. The prices were just too high for used f87's. For comps i was hard pressed to find anything with decently low mileage (and especially a manual) for under 55k. Most good condition low miles comps were close to the 60k range. That is way to close to the G87 price for me to go with an older car that by the time you have the loan paid off will be a 10 year plus old car. (If you can pay cash then that can change things) but the payments were only 200 and some change different. Every journalist/race driver that has reviewed both cars states that G87 is far superior in performance and comfort. For me, the looks are subjective just like everyone said here in the thread. Love the way the F87 looks, but the G87 grows on you and is just the way better car performance wise for me to go with an older used car that likely wont be under warranty. The carbon seats are phenomenal as well and you just dont have that option in either f87. Even comparing the CS to the new G87 the experts claim the G87 is the better car. This is just my 2 cents. But I do love how the OG F87 sounds and looks. I just couldnt fathem getting that much of an older car without warranty and the new performance ability of the G87 being that much better. Now, with the OG F87, you can find some good prices as opposed to the comps. Budget and needs with really come into play here. Interested to see what you decided on!
Cheers!

My suggestion is

Used M2 N55, very cheap and OG, sounds great. When G87 second hand price is good, then go for it.

Used G82, i do believe similar price but get full performance of S58, G series M2 more like a smaller and lower version of M4.

Really depends on what you're looking for. You're going to be happy with either choice.

As many others have said, the G87 is going to be more refined, better tech, better interior, etc... Not to mention, the S58 is so so good.

F87 is going to be a bit more raw, perhaps a little bit of an outdated interior (although depends who you ask, some people like the older style gauges and what have you).

Used F87 with about 30k miles are going for $52k-$55k or so? New M2 with some options creeps up close to $68k I think.

If price is no issue, I would say G87, but if you want a better value, gotta go with F87.I still miss my F87 There are days I consider trading in my G80 to get back into an F87.

I agree with what most have said here as well. Regarding price F87Cs are are about $10k less than a new G87 so from a financial point of view it is wiser to stretch to get the G87. That being said, I think the F87 looks so beautiful so I can't fault someone for wanting to go that route.

One more thing to note regarding the price disparity between the F87C and G87, asking price is not the same as selling price. After the G87 came out, the trade in value of the F87C plummeted. I traded mine in for low 50s in April of last year, looked at trade in value on KBB now you're looking at high 30s to low 40s.
On the flip side, because my car held its value so much, the car payments went up by less than $100 going from a $61.5K car to a $76.5K car. Woohoo

You cant make a bad decision here

If ultimate HP isnt your number one goal and you're okay with the interior its hard not to see the value in the OG M2. It sounds the best and low down torque is so fun.

F87C if you want more performance than og and f87 looks

If you need to use rear seats often f87 has more room than g87

If you like the looks and need a more refined driving experience G87 has so much going for it.

You jest, but for cost the Elantra Ns are fine sporty cars, and I'd gladly recommend them to people in lower price brackets. They are fun to drive.
