Well done video. Thanks for sharing. In my book there really isn't a loser they are both great cars.

I think it was also interesting comparison of the Porsche red and the BMW Toronto Red — which is a really dynamic color with its changes depending on light.

Risky take on a BMW forum coming but watches are the male equivalent of diamond earrings. Pure status symbol where the owner has to pretend it’s about the “art and engineering.”

Skip the watch and tape your paycheck to your forehead. It’ll save $10,000 and be more honest.

Not even remotely close. Watches are collectible for one, and appreciate in value, whereas most diamond jewelry depreciates instantly.

In an attempt to try to get us back in the direction of on-topic... saying watches appreciate is like saying cars do.

Technically true that some do, but, by no means typical.

The beauty of M cars is how they combine so many elements, including being practical. If your talking pure weekend car mid engine with NA power is going to feel more special. People get so tribal about this stuff but the reality is both cars offer different experiences. Both Porsche and BMW are manufacturers at the top of their game right now. It’s a shame M division don’t make naturally aspirated cars anymore but that’s just the reality of it.

I think thats a fair statement. The right watches will appreciate, but many will not.

Comparing watches to cars makes a lot more sense than to diamond earrings lol.

Take $50,000 and spend it on whatever watch or watches you want. I’ll take $50,000 and put it in a low-yield, low-risk vehicle that returns 5% and let’s meet back up in 25 years and see what our investments are worth.

See you in 2049!

I own a 718, albeit the GT4 variant, but I agree with many of the things Joe Berry said. The G chassis cars engineered to be playful and there is fun to be had when you can oversteer (almost with no fear in MDM mode). I was contemplating between a M2 and GT4 when the G87 first launched, and obviously I made my choice, but I always do a double take when I see the M2 around.

I don't think he's emphasizing that Rolex watches are an investment as much as he is saying, you can enjoy a hobby (watch collecting, wearing, etc) and not lose much money doing it (with the upside of it increasing in value).

A win-win would be to do both

That's good to know! Gives me hope for the future, as I'd still really like to own a Porsche in the next 10 years.

Lol, in 2012 I bought a couple stainless steel Daytonas for 9-10k a pop, couple sub lv’s for 5-6k a pop.

Sold 1 daytona 2 years ago for 25k, and 1 sub for 15k. Sold the other daytona last year for 17k, and the sub for 13k.

Watch market has definitely cooled off just like with cars, so I don’t recommend dabbling unless you’re an enthusiast. But a stainless steel Daytona, a GMT Pepsi, and some others are absolutely safe investments.

Gotta be the right watches and the right cars my friend! Most of them will depreciate like most BMW’s, some will appreciate like the right Porsche will! The GTS imo will depreciate. A GT4 or a Spyder should be safe. The RS variants even better if you can get for msrp - but that’s unlikely.

I’ve just placed an order for an M2 and will be part exchanging my 718 GT4 in the process. Hear me out on this one…

The GT4 is an amazing, raw experience which never fails to disappoint, the sound and feel from the car is unmatched for the price point. It’s not a great daily car though, my wife won’t drive it and having children makes it 3rd choice on our driveway.

The G87 feels like a great all rounder which solves those 3 big issues for our use. Had it for half a day to demo and really enjoyed it (owned a f87 and a g82 prior also). For me it’s probably the best, do it all car at the moment and there are great deals to be had!

Also, for those talking about depreciation, my GT4 cost me £2.5k last month with the value it lost and my repayment. Probably a blip in the market but it certainly helped in my decision.

Ideal world I’d keep both 😅

It’s crazy how you can get almost 2 M2’s for the price of a GTS. At least an M2 and a GTI.

So much car for the price

Man I love Porsche. It sucks though in my area I only see GT3’s so it ruined it for me. If I want a Porsche, I want a GT3. But here’s the issue- 300 grand LOL.

I appreciate all the comparisons out there and enjoy the analysis. I like both brands and many more for what they are doing and there is market for it which is great. BMW builds on top of their mass produced chassis that allows m cars to be practical and less expensive. The fact that m2 punches up to something like exclusive midengine car is great and that what I love to see.

I convinced myself many times that the new m2 is great, or not that bad looking, the chassis and engine are an absolute performance package, engine have so much tuning potential

But every time i see in a video a comparaison and they put the e46 m3 and the g87 next to each other , my bubble burst, the e46 m3 is so beautiful next to the g87.

It’s hard to forget the image once you have seen it.

I’ll stick with my m2c personally.
