I think a 6mt might change that but I couldn’t even find a 6mt in my area to test drive, they are that rare! The steering and chassis capabilities are sharper than the g87. The car is like a scalpel and some times feel a bit too clinical and doesn’t have enough drama. I found the g87 to be more playful and has a bit more drama. Some people may hate me for saying this but I feel that the s58 motor feels loads more special than the 3.0L TT in the c2s. S58 just pulls and pulls. When it came down to it I felt like 991.2 c2s is really a $75k-85k driving experience by todays standard, not the $98k+ prices I see them switch hands at. I feel that I was able to get 85% of the driving experience with my new g87.

I actually got a 992 Carrera T allocation last fall as well and ended up keeping my g87 as my T spec would have been $145k. The 992 Carrera T is definitely not a $145k driving experience in my opinion. It didn’t help that the T msrp went up twice in the time that I was waiting for an allocation which left a bad taste with me. I think Porsche prices are getting a bit ridiculous. Gt3 are different story, I think they are worth every penny at MSRP as they are 100x in drama than the non GT variant. I am saving up for a GT car for sure just going to bypass the non GT stuff.
I have Cayman GTS 4.0 and it drives better than 991.2 and 992, even better than M2. The 992 versions I drove (S and 4S) drove like sport sedans, just with better steering feel. I am considering canceling my 992 GTS spot (and deposit) and just order a 2025 M2. Little bummed about losing Cognac interior in 2025 M2 but will still order.

I may trade in my Cayman for a Boxster GTS if I can order new and this way I have both conv and a coupe. If not two sport coupes are just fine.

That's the state of mind at the moment

If you are going to buy another car, an M2, I'd seriously consider trading in the GTS. In my state (AR) the trade in value reduces the amount of money upon which I have to pay sales tax. That's a savings of IIRC 6.5%. If your state does something similar that's worth considering.

But even if not, you drive onto the dealer's lot with your GTS and you drive off the lot with the M2. Done.

(On the consignment lot who knows how many/what kind of test drives the GTS gets. And if you still have insurance on the car your insurance comes into play if there's an accident.)

Or you take the GTS to a Porsche dealer and go up to the sales manager. "Hi. Buy my car." has worked well for me in the past. 'course, beforehand you have to do some research to have a good idea of what your GTS is worth. But you are not going to get retail for it rather you'll get trade in/wholesale.
The flash is the badge. Rolling in with a Porsche GTS vs. a 2 series BMW is what he wants to avoid. Same with me. BMW's are more common cars. We're talking normal folk.

Precisely. Both the M2 and 911 are appealing to the enthusiast. However a bright red porsche 911 draws a lot of unwanted attention when at work

Man OP you are living the dream with that much garage space!

Here's my 2 cents

get the M2 since you already have the GTS 4.0

my history reads like this
16 Cayman S to 2020 M2C to 2022 GTS 4.0

so I know a bit about the M2 vs Porsche scenario

they offer very different kinds of fun

the M2C is more playful in its handling and offers a crazy turbo pull, it also offers awesome bulldogish looks

the porsches are precise clinical warriors that engage you in a different way

I would go G87 or even F87 M2C since you are keeping the GTS 4.0

best of both worlds

bulldogish BMW turbo coupe and NA race car in the 4.0

if you go 991.2 you've got 2 of the pretty much the same thing, only one is worse than the other (and I know you know which one is worse

Yes sir, G87 it is for now and keeping the GTS 4.0 also

https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2...n-test-review/

In this motortrend comparison, they picked the G87 over Caymans GTS 4.0 which was surprising. So I look forward to swinging emotions while I drive both back and forth.

I am sure you will enjoy their contrasting personalities!

I wish I coulda have kept my F87 M2C and added the GTS 4.0

A lot of you have said exactly what I've been feeling.

I am on 992 GTS waitlist with a deposit down. Been almost 2 years now. I got the G87 to try out while I wait but now enjoying the M2 way more then expected. I like with the M2 there is lots of mods to personalize it and make it perform even better. Where as, 992 I feel like you shouldn't mod it. I am still curious what the 992.2 will be, so waiting for that to reveal. But agreeing with Shehatezme. The GTS has gone up by $25k from when I put a deposit and don't see the $175k performance, where as a GT3 for that price range makes sense.
Anyhow, will most likely be canceling my 992 spot.

There is no way I'll own a high end car that I need to take a key out of my pocket and/or insert something on the left side of a steering wheel to start it.

For the first time I may consider buying a Porsche (other than a GT4 that I was on the wait list for back in the day) is with the new models that finally ditch the stupid key.

On a serious note - if you need the back seats for occasional adult use or you want to stay under $80K, M2 all the way. else 911 GTS.

As a former 911 owner I’ll tell you first hand. The M2 doesn’t come close to a 911. With that being said, the M2 is a great drivers car. Not very refined, but straight to the point.

I would lean towards the G87 and use the left over funds to either pay off the mortgage, or if home is fully owned use the additional funds to purchase an investment property...you will be eventually be very happy with that course of action....all cars too soon become memories and good investment returns eventually pay for the toys in our lives. I'm at a time in life where I can pay cash for my cars (due to investments), I really can't go past the G87 for driving pleasure and at a reasonable price. Porsche's remain fantastic cars, but have in recent years become ridiculously expensive as has borrowing money.

Interesting advice. I’d take it a step further and save the G87 funds and buy a used camry and two investment properties. All cars too soon become memories and good investment returns will pay for cars in the future.
Your fallacy is assuming someone buying a Porsche is financing it and doesn’t already have investment properties. Paying cash for a 70k for you might not be a problem, just like paying cash for a $200k car isn’t a problem for a lot of people.

I was in the same boat, I had recently bought a 718 GT4 and was cross shopping the g87 M2, G80 M3, and Civic Type R. After driving the g87 M2(manual) twice I decided it wasn't the car for me. I actually really enjoyed the Civic Type R more than the G87 M2 and G80 M3. The inputs really were not all that enjoyable to me which is what originally drew me to bmw and I never found bmw manuals enjoyable. I'm someone who really enjoys having an analog and connected driving experience. Most modern cars feel numb and too refined, and even though I got an allocation for a new Carrera T I turned it down.

I ended up buying a 996 turbo for about the same price as a new g87 M2. It's the perfect combination of an analog driving experience but still modern and refined enough to daily drive. It still feels tremendously fast, but is enjoyable at lower speeds as well.

You are correct about $200k being a lot of money. My advice was simply that, advice, buy what you can afford. Having said that its is good to own a G87 and several properties.

Depends on the job/company.

I won't say where I work, but seeing an Aston, Ferrari California, Lamborghini STO and a few 911's is normal

Former 991.1 owner and now G87 in frozen grey. Not saying its comparable to 991.2, however torque in the G87 much superior as well as most of low end. Top end not sure as still in break in. Miss the cornering a bit of the 911, however I got a new car vs. 2015 and saved a lot.

Exactly....great cars....worth $120k used? Hell no - and it's not an affordability issue because that is constantly trotted out by the snobs, I just can't sink that kind of money into a car

A GT3 should be a $90k car, the profit margins are crazy

I really, really like this car. In my garage I have a 2011 Callaway supercharged carbon edition Z06 with Z07 ultimate performance track pkg. My wife has a '22 X3M Competition. The Z06 sees maybe ~1,000 mi/year, but has pretty much been on the tender under cover since I picked up the M2.
My buddy has a C7 Z06 - fun cars but I'm partial to turbocharging and he struggles to get the power down

Got refund on 992.2 GTS deposit already, no interest in 911 anymore.

I was settled on the M2 and was planning to order in December-January.......until last weekend when I test drove the Giulia Quad. That car drives like Cayman GTS 4.0 with four doors. Never felt such good chassis control in a sedan before. I remember test driving the G80 M3 and I didn't even like it. Quad however was stellar but no sunroof and only dark interior (black).

So now its between Quad and M2
