For the oil cooler the size of the one on the G8x, it needs to transfer about 20kW (~70,000BTU/hr) of energy as heat transfer to the airflow to work effectively. Any significant airflow restriction will prevent that level of heat transfer. That amount of heat is equivalent to that generated by a decent sized BBQ or 4 tumble dryers.
