3. Yes you apply ceramic coating on top of ppf. Two different products that serve different purposes. PPF is just that, paint protection film that protects the paint from scratches, rock chips, etc. Ceramic coating does not offer protection from those things but gives a glossier/shinier appearance and makes the car easier to clean.

4. Yes, ppf front lips, side skirts, etc.

I Disagree but everyone is free to do what they want...the "ceramic sprays" are the scam.

Agreed. True ceramic will protect the PPF and provide a hydrophic barrier way better than naked PPF. Especially if the car sits in the sun most days.

Be aware that the ppf manufacturer may void the ppf warranty if you use a non-approved ceramic coating on top of your ppf. Xpel calls this out in their warranty.

Huh? What does that have to do with anything? I got a rock chip on my front bumper the day I drove my car home from the dealership. My PPF has at least 6-7 tears from rocks, and I have 6500km on the car.

It all depends on where and when you drive. If you drive primarily on open roads, not a lot of traffic, sure. If you drive in traffic a lot, congested roads, road construction areas, etc., your car is going to get chipped.

On my drives I can literally hear the small stones, sand, etc. hitting my car. If I didn't have ppf, the paint would look like garbage already with only 9k mi. There will be road construction in my area for at least the next 10 years (already planned) so every vehicle I buy goes right to the ppf shop.

I respectfully disagree. The ppf on my front bumper & hood has taken a lot of hits already. I'd agree the front fenders are probably ok without ppf. Each car is different, the rockers and rear brake vent areas on my Corvette take a lot of hits. The front air vents on my wife's X3MC are pretty beat up at 28k mi - she didn't get her's covered (yet). I'm going to order new vent trim for hers & then get the front covered. I've had vehicles that looked like the front was sandblasted with very few miles on them, so I decided moving forward all my vehicles get ppf. It's been worth it for me.

PPF in CO is a requirement. They sand and gravel the roads every winter, all over the state. This crap never really leaves during the summer months.

We had to replace a $1,200 windshield recently. In ONE 1hr trip up the interstate, it looked like a 5yr old windshield - completely pitted and trashed. The front of the car still looks almost new after 4 years of ownership, because of the PPF..

To actually question whether PPF is an option for us CO folks is nonsensical - it's just assumed. Sunny FL or other places would be very different I'd imagine. Totally depends on where you drive and whether a lot of it is hwy or not.

Luminescent Detailing did front PPF on my F80 M3 for about $2k and full PPF on my G80 M3 for about $8k. I’m definitely go back there for front PPF on my M2 when it comes this summer. Does this sound reasonable? $8500 for the following:

1. Full vehicle wrap with Xpel Stealth PPF
2. Xpel Ceramic coating including the wheels
3. Xpel XR Black nano-ceramic tint.

Full car Xpel by me is $5k, ceramic was ~$700 (not sure if I'm remembering correctly), full window tint is $699 & windshield uv film is $399.

The shop (supposedly one of the better ones, they got an xpel award a couple years ago) I got a Stealth PPF quote from told me $8k just for the PPF and that had a +$1k premium over the non stealth PPF that was 8mil, 10mil cost the same as stealth. This quote includes one step paint correction (tbh idk if i'd even be able to tell on a new car) and also interior trim pieces. Add ceramic and tint to that and its within tolerances. That said they knew my car was a few months out and I stopped communicating and then they sent me a message saying they were running a 15% discount shortly after which is a huge discount when the price is several thousands.

I'm just going to do the front bumper and headlights, I'd rather spend the rest of that money on an axle-back and carbon fiber bits and then go drive the thing.

ikr. I am still on the fence on full car. 14yrs, 170k highway miles on my 335i and the hood/bumper and windshield are decimated. Maybe might just do all that and fenders, rocker panels and the cf roof but by that point its basically like 75% ppf'd

Will definitely get more quotes i expect the one I got was one of the higher ones since it was Scottsdale, AZ but they also promised no lines and that the film is longer so they can tuck it around edges.

If they're wrapping the edges, then their loosening/removing body panels. If that's the case, it would explain the higher cost. Unless I'm really up close when washing/detailing mine, I don't see the lines/seams. It's not something I would pay a few extra grand for.

Fwiw - I paid $2,600, including sales tax of 8.25% & after 10% repeat customer discount, for: front fascia, head lights, front grille, full hood, front fenders, side mirrors, rocker panels and lower rear bumper behind wheel opening, a-pillar and front of sunroof area. Xpel Ultimate Plus.

At max I would just do front bumper and hood and take the financial hit if it’s less than $2k or so. No way spending 10% of a vehicles value on full PPF makes any type of financial sense especially since it needs to be replaced at some point, gets beat up, can’t be removed and sold like an exhaust if you want to trade or sell the car, won’t protect against everything…bigger debris, dings, etc.

I hate rock chips as much as the next guy but the cars I have don’t have a ton of rock chips so full PPF would be like paying $1,000 per rock deflection. Not worth it to me.

I also put the mega chip rock guards on as my roads are sandy and the rear portion of the rocker panel was taking a beating. PPF has held up fine but the rock guards should keep it cleaner for longer.

Got a quote for a little under 5K for full body 3M scotch guard PPF from a local shop here in Vegas. They mentioned August is their slowest month so there’s a significant discount. I’m trying to save a bit so they’re doing full front clip from front bumper to hood + the rocker/side skirts for 2100, and agreed I can pay the difference to get the rest done whenever. Pretty happy with that deal!

Couple other shops quoted 8K+ for the same thing. This place also had really good prices on tint and said they charge less as a newer business to gain more repeat customers (100+ 5 star yelp reviews and nothing lower than 4) so I’m going to stick with them for now haha.
