While I can't speak to the 2-Series in particular, I have a G6 Coupe which has a comparable cabin size and during the summer months it stays closed with shade drawn since I have black leather. During spring/fall, I open it and during winter I keep it closed but the shade open to draw in light and help warm up the interior. It really does help open things up during those cloudy, dreary months in KC.
