Because those aero parts are just for show and completely non-functional. Having said that, I’m surprised this car has none of its own bespoke aero (from what we can see so far).

Seems counter to the ///M brand so many people spout off about, doesn't it? One could argue that some are "true M" cars but when I see they aren't even using their own parts on their "race car" I can't help but laugh at those same people.

lol if yall look closely it has a half cage in it, by the shape of the seat it looks to be a bucket seat and a vent on the driver side rear window… there is probably more internally than on the outside. Most people really love to criticize what they don’t even fully know or see.. and I would add that there is a high chance the the BMW M division did the testing and possibly saw the data that they collected to conclude that the G87 didn’t need to be modified to look like a racecar because of how it possibly performed.

It is intended to be used as a turn-key racecar with a “clean slate” for people to build on further. It’s track ready with room for modifications. Not everyone wants to spend months shedding weight and doing what Jackie Ding did.

It probably doesn’t have a ton of aero on it because of regulations for whatever class they’re putting it in for NLS/VLN/RCN/N24.
It’s not a GT3 or GT4 car after all. |

Looks like BMW inadvertently debuted the M2 CS' front splitter.

I’m not suggesting they release a Jackie Ding equivalent, because he’s purposely built that for a specific purpose/class. My point is that Jackie and his team clearly invested a lot of time and energy into aero development for example. I don’t see that here. BMW clearly haven’t done any additional aero development over OEM (when they did for the previous 3 generations of 2-series race cars). Now, if you’re argument is “yeah but they want to keep the price down and let customers do it themselves”… then what’s the point? Why not just buy a stock M2 and do it yourself? Had the same thought. I imagine the CS will get that rear wing too.
I like the front splitter!

I agree in principle but the reality hurts… I remember looking for an M2 CS Racing ABS splitter for my F87 and the cost was not far from the carbon fibre alternatives. Shame really.

Not sure what the complaints are about. They’re only teaser pics but if you look closely you can see its the ‘real deal’. You can see by the a-pillar it has the fully stripped interior, a full cage, flocked dash, race seat, aero catches on boot & bonnet so liklely composite panels, race spec wheels, slicks. Then theres all the suspension & drivetrain stuff you cant see.
The blurb states its a base for GT3 & GT4 spec classes. Cant wait to see a GT3 spec car.

I dont think people on here understand how motorsport works. Aero parts etc are entirely dependant upon what class you are competing in as are many other components. You cant just slap any huge swan neck on & go compete wherever you like.
That jackie ding car being referenced is apparently a time attack car & that class has basically no limit to what you can do as far as aero goes. Had this car been available i am sure he would have started with this rather than just a road car. GT3 & GT4 are much more serious forms of racing with international sanctioned classes that are highly regulated. Once you see a GT3 car built to spec it will have all the aero etc that is allowed. This is the base car from which customer race spec cars will be further developed according to whatever class/series they are to compete in. Thankfully many manufacturers like BMW build cars like this as it provides a top quality entry point for serious competitors rather than just hacking up road cars.
