I'd like to invent a way to zap pests I see on the cams around my house. Possums and raccoons and the cats from the barn down the hill. They all come around stealing food from our outdoor cats. When I see them on the camera, I'd love to have a device to give them a static zap at the push of a button to scare them off.

They never work for me. I must have invisible hands.

For me, laundry is not a problem because my wife washes, dries, folds, and puts away. I've offered to help many times but she doesn't want me anywhere near the laundry room. I think one time years ago I did a load and put some red-colored things in with some white things. Turns out my wife doesn't like pink. |

An MRI is essentially a spinning magnet that always needs to be on, is massive and costs like $1M. A CT scanner is simpler but produces radiation and hits you with a high dose every time you have one... you don't want to have those too often. Both seem like overkill and it would be nice to have something smaller and simpler.

Yeah, it's a constant battle and has been for the dozen or so years we've had these outdoor cats. Neither of these two cats wanted to be indoor cats. Way back when after we had them spayed, they were inside for recovery and were miserable and wanting back out. So we have "kitty condos" with heat pads and we feed them daily. We had to have one other outdoor cat put down recently because she developed an intestinal issue that couldn't be cured and she was miserable. But she was 14 years old, which is pretty good for a cat that's lived outside her whole life.

I think I've actually thought of a couple of decent inventions.
1. BurnAlerts Sunglasses...one day I was at the pool with my wife and was wearing a pair of Serengeti sunglasses. The lens had a brownish orange tint to them and as I looked around, I noticed it amplified the color pink and red. I could see people starting to sunburn. But when I took them off, their skin appeared normal. So it struck me - dial in the color of a lens to maximize the amplification of pink and red colors and market them as "BurnAlerts". You can wear them to sporting events, at the beach, pool, doing outdoor work, basically any activity out in the sun and not only protect yourself from burning, but anyone around you. Event helps to prevent skin cancer! 2. RakeAssist. For anyone who has had the displeasure of having to rake your yard, you know the blisters that form when handling a rake, even when wearing gloves. So I 3D printed a simple handle grip that could easily attach to the end of a rake at a perpendicular angle, so that you were holding that end of the rake similar to holding a gun grip for easier handling....and no blisters or wrist soreness! My lazy ass never pursued either of these products.... |

I actually invented bottled water. No word a lie, true story.
Picture it, deep western Sydney (Penrith), 1988. I'm 12, standing in a typical australian indoor/outdoor shopping plaza. It's mid January and baking hot well over 100 degrees for my American friends. I'm so fucking thirsty, it's so damn hot. Mum gives me a few coins and tells me to get what I want from the corner store, they have juice, pop etc but I don't want that. I spot a tap I had used before, (these were in random places in Australia back in the day), but it was now unusable as the handle was removed. Mum asked me why i didn't buy anything, because you know.... thirsty and 1000 degrees in the fucking shade, I turned to her and said, you know what ma, I reakon if you could bottle water people would buy it, i just want water. Who would have known eh. |

****I'm thinking for older guys - they might feel they were back in time if they could buy bottled hose water instead of that uppity Evian or Fiji water, etc... Like going back in time to ones youth!!! $5 a bottle. Guaranteed fresh from the hose with maybe a bit of mulch and dirt for authenticity! |

So my previous post was obviously self-serving and for revenge.
On the serious side, I wish I could invent a cure for nerve injuries and brain injuries. It could be a gadget (surgery, implant, transplant…), or chemical treatment of some sort. I have 2 friends in wheelchairs; one a senior and the other in his 20’s. Both outcomes were due to accidents. The senior fell off a ladder and later had a stroke while recovering from the surgeries to his broken bones. The younger fellow fell while climbing a treacherous mountain. So while both of these accidents were preventable, I still wish there was a cure.

Had a friend when I was 20, friend was also 20, who lost control on his motorcycle and hit his head on a street curb and got severe brain damage and could no longer walk and could barely talk. Spent his life in a wheelchair. 50 years later he is still in a wheelchair. I visit him often. He lives in a nurse assisted facility (no family) and can hardly do anything for himself. Very sad. Life can be hard. PS - Thank God for helmet laws. They didn't exist back then. Last edited by Esteban; 01-04-2025 at 01:27 PM.. |

I want one! And I'll do anything to get it. But I won't do that.
