I'm not really understanding why you would be looking to fix it yourself. The car has 90 miles on it according to your picture, so just bring it in and let the dealership fix it.

Get an Optimate - you will thank me later, I've tried all of them over about 20 years

I keep an Optimate6 hooked up on my M2 at all times when it's resting in the garage, which is most weekdays. They are the BEST
I will definitely look into them. I will check out the Optimate 6.

I definitely will. I just have to find a day in northern Virginia that is not covered in snow and salt and above 40 degrees with the summer tires it has. I wish I could go there tomorrow. I just would like to get it resolved as soon as I can.

Funny how the BMW branded one appears to be a CTEK.

Exactly, many manufactures sell CTEKs with their logo on them. I've used CTEKs on all my vehicles for years, even those double the price of my M2, and they work great.

They're not. Not only do many car manufacturers sell rebranded C-TEK chargers and/or recommend them, but there are also many battery manufacturers that recommend using them with their batteries.

There were some on forums and reviews saying newer C-TEK models seemed to prematurely stop working, but it's unclear how prevalent that issue was or if still persists. Most models have a 5yr warranty so that wouldn't stop me from buying another. I've used C-TEK chargers for over 10yrs and have had zero issues.

It’s not junk.

I’ve used CTEK and Black and Decker on our cars in New York and Arizona for 5-6 month sustained periods during the past 13 years without a problem. Every time we return to either residence all cars started perfectly.

The circuitry in these maintainers is not complicated.

Ignore that guy.

Sort of what I had in mind.

Hopefully the dealer will simply do it for you as a courtesy.
Could Bimmercode not do the same thing?

Cheers

Already scheduled next week. That will give the mid Atlantic time to melt some snow and should be above freezing on the day I am supposed to take it in. I will definitely update this as things move along. Now just to make sure BMW Fairfax has a replacement battery in stock so I don't have to make another trip. I can't find out till tomorrow as the dealership is closed for the snow storm.

So the data points from rest of us, who have been using them for years without issue, should be thrown out because of your limited experience? I have one going strong for currently 9 years (car sees less than 1k mi/yr), another at 6 years, and another at 3 years (vehicle has seen 600 mi in that time).
I've also purchased them for family & those are going strong many years later as well. But we'll take your word that they're junk

Question

Does it matter whether you attach the tender to the underhood connectors or directly to the battery?

That’s right and it is documented performance over 13 years, 3 cars, and 2 residences.
They don’t work for you, that’s unfortunate. Maybe they don’t work well on Yugos.
On the other hand, most of us have positive results. We know what we know.
Now put a sock in it.

You should always connect them under the hood, never directly to the battery so that the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) can monitor the battery. Only time you can safely connect them directly to the battery is if it's not connected to the car.

Just buy both and examine the quality, there is NO comparison. CTEK is a trinket

Yes, you only know what you know, which isn't much

I connect the Optimate directly to the battery and have done it for at least 10 years, it's will automatically charge the battery to optimum state - they are awesome

Read my posts again, slowly this time as you don’t seem all that bright. Verified incidentally by your posting history.
3 cars, 13 years, multiple residences.
No problems.
Then read all the other posts with positive user experiences. “Junk” products have short life market expectancies. CTEK, whether you like it or not, is high regarded.

I’m done. Arguing with a fool is wasted energy. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. You won as expected.

Was at my dealer and every car in the showroom was on a CTEK. BMW brands CTEKs and sells them as OEM. I’ll take a chance that they can keep my battery charged.

Sure you want to confront Beavis (see above) with this information?
He’ll crush you with ignorance.

Completely irrelevant arguments

I'm well aware CTEK trinket chargers are rebranded by several manufacturers - what does that prove? It proves they got paid to slap a name on it....is that really all you have ? CTEK chargers are made in China, genius. Optimate chargers are designed in Canada and manufactured in the US. You are supporting more imported Chinese junk - hope you're proud. Yes they may work but if you actually OWN both of them (and not just talk out of your azz about both) the difference in quality is night and day

Sheesh....back to romper room hour with carefree mind....
