Looks like a Lincoln Nautilus!! I’m sorry BMW, leave that concept in the concept bin. I think I will be stuck in my 2022 X5 for a long time, just a perfect balance, a gauge cluster, on the side an infotainment screen and “buttons”. Call me old style but for me that is classy, minimalistic design and slapping wide screen on a dash is not class leading, it’s just another bad design trend.

I can't speak for the dash electronics, but I like the car's styling direction. Low window sills, bright interior, shark-nose front end. It is reminiscent of BMWs of the '70s and '80s, which I miss. Thank god they're moving away from the Transformers style of today, which offers overproduced, over-the-top styling and excessively dark interiors.

Getting rid of the i-drive knob is a huge mistake. I don't want to be forced to touch a screen in a moving car. And having to use a slow responding voice control system is just as bad.

Despite all the things they got RIGHT with this platform (E9X) somebody missed the fact that we abbreviate miles as "mi" not "mls" in American English. |

Tech for tech's sake. 👎 And sure wish BMW would stop futzing the kidneys. Haven't they sickened the public enough already?

I use the Knob and voice commands and it’s great. I purposely avoided the heads up display. I check just a couple things when I start out and then I go. The screens in modern cars will just get bigger, but I actually like the ID8 screens - they’re not too big. when I’m sitting still looking to entertain myself I’ll check oil level, tire pressure/temperature, my music. But damn how much more do you need to check for a car? Oh yeah, there’s an app for that too. BMW seems to be famous for answering questions that nobody has asked with features

These are increadibly good designs. The Neue Klasse look is by far the best that came out of the Dukec era. The limousine has a lot of classic BMW DNA in it. And they managed to do that without making one of those cheap retro designs.
I really don't get the hate. IMO this is infinitely better and more cohesive design than the current 2 Series or X3. My only fear is that the production version will look a lot different once it looses all the cool design elements around the bumper and greenhouse. |

That panoramic display seems gimmicky to me and not well thought out.
So there are displays on the opposite side to the driver so the driver instead of looking at the road now has to look to the side? How does that make any sense? Information should be in front of the driver, a HUD is ideal for important as it’s in the drivers line AND focused at 6 feet away so you don’t have to effectively refocus. This seems to be yet again inappropriate technology, form over function Is it clever ? Yeh possibly Does it look “cool” perhaps , but what does that actually mean. Does it actually work better than existing designs? I think not based on its location Come on bmw , do you think we want to drive PlayStations? I’m done with bmw now , and to be honest most other manufacturers aswell due to them feeling they have to incorporate this in ergonomic tech. Others may disagree but I don’t want :- Touch screens Gesture control Stupid panoramic displays Screens instead of rear view mirrors Removal of physical buttons Gimmicky graphics on displays Just look at profession kit compared to consumer kit for a given product and see the difference Rant over! |

I don't quite get that line. Aren't glasses mandatory for driving a vehicle if your eyes are bad?

I think what this is supposed to mean is that if you are if more mature years where you may require reading glasses. But as the display is perhaps another foot away it may be better in that respect but my comments in the above chat apply

There are plenty of people with good far sighted vision for driving - no issues. But in the near-field, this information can be blurry. I don’t mind the ID8 screens but all this other display crap on the cowl is ridiculous not to mention, I despise the iPad center display concept from Tesla.. I’m not going to use readers at the tip of my nose to see this stuff. I’m quite content with what’s in the garage for many many years to come.

Your point about far sighted people is spot on. Did they think about it? Do you think the 20 year old designer even has an idea of what it is until he (sorry he or she) turns 50? No of course not. There is no regulatory standard for it? So no it wont be addressed. Or theyll point to a menu and tell you "make font bigger". And then "oh yeah, we dont have that option" and with a shrug will call you a boomer and move on. Even if you are like Gen X or early millenial. Boomer = old and pointless. So thats the pretty much thought process on everything in cars. A tech product, drive cost down, sell for high price to keep margins, etc. I look back how there was a promise of an EV for example being this super cheap alternative to ICE to run. What happened? Oh, they are so expensive, you pay more anyway, and then company goes to town to eek margins out but keeping price flat or rising (Tesla Model Y notwithstanding, that was just a defensive move). So what next? If you want a good car you have more and more incentive to buy used. This screen nonsense will change, but it will take time. The non car people making cars are gonna be there for a while still.

This is just churn. They feel they have to make changes to justify something new. They really haven’t considered actual drivers here at all
This form before function crap is getting worse and seeing across many industries now |
