Not if the parts are covered under insurance. Insurers only put new parts on the car, which drives up costs further. Plus with the new secure coding in idrive 8.5, can we even code donor parts to our vehicles anymore?

Anytime I see pics like this I figure there’s a 50-50 chance it happened here in Florida. Seems like we have plenty of young people with easy access to more money and/or more car than they can handle. There was a fatal crash involving an M2 in Orlando are in the past week. 20-something and his girlfriend in the M2 racing some high school kids in a Camry. M2 cut the Camry off and clipped it, both cars went off the road, 4 people dead including the driver and passenger in the M2.

maybe different in canada, but thats absolutely not true in the US. insurers can have shops use aftermarket or used parts to repair cars. even if you an OEM parts endorsement through your insurer, if you are not at fault, chances are the other person's insurance won't honor that. WRT ID 8.5, wouldnt be relevant for many parts, but thats an LCI problem i'm not tracking.

Lack of driver training again. Want better drivers that understand the environment and equipment they are in, make better decsisons etc--you need a training and testing system in place that enables that.

40+% of drivers in the US are probably unqualified to be behind the wheel. Have zero to minimal clue about the power they contol etc. Do not conceive of the real damage potential to themselves or others, much less fully know the rules of the road or have good insurance if any.

Insurance companies dont seem to care either. Do they actively promote good and in-depth young or new driver training??????????

I do not have any social skills whatsoever. However, my dog apparently has every single social skills available. I, for example, do ordinarily not lick people in their face. My dog does whenever he thinks it is cool, which is always. . Most of my friends are people that the dog met first. A very fine beast who loves the M2, but only with the windows down. So we have a lot of local fans here for the M2, but I think they like the dog better.

When I was 17 my parents took me to a program put on by Drivers Edge, we got training on extreme driving and crash scenarios and then did simulated evasive driving drills in BMW 3 series cars. The driving scenarios were:

Quick lane change (simulates something falls off a truck in front of you on the highway)

Wet figure 8 training to actually experience counter steering.

Wet spinout to practice recovery.

It was a very fun day, and boosted me into a much higher level of comfort with loss of control. Highly recommend something like that if anyone is currently training young drivers.

Last month it snowed pretty heavily in TX for a couple days & I took my 15-yr-old out to their football stadium parking lot in his Jeep Wrangler & taught him how to recover from skids. Spent the first hour or so in 2wd & then another hour or more in 4wd. We this a couple times each day. Very rarely get the opportunity down here to practice winter driving.

* of course also taught him how to do proper donuts

Humbling moment

When I was 19 me and my dad were going somewhere in stop and go traffic and he had just told me, "stop tailgating" Of course I took it as some kind insult to my "skill" and "experience". Heck I passed my drivers test and was on my way to being the best driver on earth. Literally less than a minute later the car in front stopped short and SMACK! I ran right into the car in front of me. My pop who is known to flip out didn't say a word. Just looked at me. I never rear ended a car again. Respect to all the Dads trying to raise a son who is young dumb and full of...
