Sorry if this was already posted, though I looked through all that I could and didn’t see it.

I bought my 325i about a month ago. I have been concerned about not knowing when the engine is warmed up. A week ago, I noticed that the oil level meter on the display won’t read the oil level until it is at operating temp. Now when I wonder if the engine is warmed up, I just check the oil level. I know this is more work than looking at a gauge, but it’s our only option. I tried this every day for a week and, without fail, it worked every time.

When oil is cold, it is thicker and takes up less volume. As it heats up, it thins out and expands. This explains why the car wouldn’t read it until the engine is warm.
