Quick question:

What are the qualifications for claiming to be Persian? For example, there is no country (that I'm aware of ) named Persia, so are any or most middle-eastern nationalities under this same ubrella?

I have a friend who is Iranian, however she tells people she is Iranian, not Persian.

Not trying to be funny, buy would really like to know from those who can probably better explain this to me.

Persia used to be a huge ass empire that started about 2600 years ago by Cyrus the Great.. It was so big that at its max it stretched from China to Egypt, not including those two countries though. However due to the stupidity of some recent kings (kings from like 400 years ago) Persia became smaller.

Now for Persians. Its really hard to say, because in my opinion Persians are spread around Iran. However, usually when one reffers to Persians, he/she means Iranians.

I personally sometimes get embarrased to call myself Iranian due to all of the stupid stereo-types out there because of the stupid Media that make Iranians look bad. Just because the stupid Islamic powered government is fucked up, doesn't mean that the people are bad too.

This is why Iranians usually reffer to themselves as Persians.
Though I'm sure that, all of us Persians still consider ourselves proud Iranians.
