Dude, it's a bmw, not an Aston Martin. Get over it. I buy the most bang for my buck, not for the reaction of others. That's why I bought the A4 when I did and why i'll buy a 335i (very soon hopefully). Same reason I bought an Omega over a Rolex. Wait..this isn't a watch forum..DOH!

Having climbed the money mountain more than once, and also having slept in the complementary wet ditches along life's trail more than once, the most precious thing you can carry with you is genuine humility, not a car fob. But until you've been to the material plateau long enough not to remember your origins, it's nearly impossible for your ego to 'get' that money and lovely things are no guarantee of happiness or anything else. Until that time, it's likely you will poo-poo such a silly statement as this.

BTW... I wouldn't want to look like I'm intentionally flashing the fact I drive a BMW but I do wear the BMW hat the dealer gave me sometimes. I sometimes have my keys out on my desk or on a table.. not because I'm trying to show off my fob but simply because I don't feel like having them in my pocket.
I mean, I'm not going to go around flashing the BMW symbol but I'm not going to go out of my way to hide it either like it's some really big deal... I mean it's an entry level 3-series BMW, you don't have to be rich to have one. Lots of people do.

It's true there's an inherent perceived status in driving a BMW. If you just got your car, it's natural you'd feel especially proud and happy...especially if it's your first BMW like mine. So in the early stages, I think some passive flaunting is ok; it's human nature. Just don't go out of your way for it =)
But like others who posted earlier, imagine looking from a 3rd person's perspective. If I see this guy strutting around, I'd also think of him as a prick. However, I do admit it's a girl magnet. But as all my friends know, it's the 300hp twin turbo, and the superior handling that made me get my 335i. I don't go out of my way to advertise...in fact, I've kept it very low-key at work and almost nobody knows.

It seems to me that if a car is the thing of which you are most proud, you have not known significant achievement in your life.
The real players don't flash keys or drop names. They are known by a well earned reputation.

Personally, when people ask what car I drive, I was happy to say "Audi" when I had one since they don't (didn't) have the status symbol like BMWs do.
Now that I have the 335i, I say BMW very quietly. I literally lower my voice because *other* people define you by the car you drive, and I don't want to be. I own the BMW because of the handling, the ride, and the twin-turbos (and the tuning potential). I'll tell people about my wife and children in a loud and proud voice. That's the "key fab" I show off. |

This whole conversation reminds me of Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development. LOL
"Michael, These immigrants don't come to this country to make friends, they come here to clean my penthouse!" - Lucille Bluth To the OP, I do not flaunt my key fob. Like the other individuals I think it's just flat out tacky. I mean what are we in 5th grade? My mom drives a better car than your mom! I know a ton of people that driving regular vehicles, but live in massive multi-million dollar mansions. In reality you shouldn't be looking a person's vehicle as a sign of their wealth, only stupid shallow individuals do that. |

I think it's a little bit tacky if you wanna "show it off". It's like you're flaunting to the world that you drive a bimmer.
This isnt directed toward the OP specifically but to those who are somewhat arrogant: one day, just like any other day. You're walking aound flashing your keyfob or whatever and some dude asks you what you drive. You arrogantly say " A BMW 3 series ". Then you start telling him how good a BMW is and so on. The entire time he just nods and asks questions just to be polite. Since he's your classmate you guys then walk to the parking lot together. Then you bid each other goodbye. You get into your 3 series and he gets into his M5, which was parked right next to yours. That's a straight up slap in the face!! Lesson of the day" "He who laughs last has the last laugh." |

haha.i do the same thing...I don't even like saying BMW...I tend to say 3 series in a low voice..and then of course get questioned on it...I have a tendency to put my keys on my desk at work and of course its a opening to get questioned on it...Don't do it for the questions..just do it b/c I'm too lazy to put the keys in the pocket
