Remember, they don't hire anyone older than 35.
That would be in violation of Federal law if it were true.

I just looked it up - you can't become a Special Agent if you're over the age 37. But the FBI hires people of all ages for various positions.

If he is telling the truth, it sounds like they could possibly fail honest people.
Pretty much the only thing drug related, if you come clean about it, is sparingly using marijuana. I think if you've only done it a few times casually they don't really mind. That and you have to have not used it within a year of when you applied or something like that.

After a few years in public accounting I'm going to look into being a Special Agent for either the FBI or the IRS. Right now I'm favoring the IRS more.

Here is one part of their process... where you got to get a TS clearance...
13 things they look at prior to granting you clearance...

I hope you get in. I made it to phase II twice and interviewed in Philly and NYC. I was really disappointed that I did not get in. For phase II interview questions, be yourself and recall all the times in your life that you showed leadership, ability to prioritize work load, conflict resolution with people, ability to problem solve. You must be able to recall a certain situation in your life with these attributes and provide specific details. I think I failed because 1). I was not myself 2). I did not provide enough detail in which I demonstrated the ability to adapt to stress and quickly problem solve.

I hope this helps and best of luck. . .

haha.. I didn't read this until after the interview. Finished my Phase 2 this morning in NYC. I've got to say, I'm glad it is done and over with. Don't know how well I did, but I did answered all questions. That was my biggest concern before the interview. I was worried that I might be able to think of a story for every question. Before the interview, I thought it was going to feel like an eternity to finish the 13 questions interview, but the interview flew by just like that. I was in there for about 50 mins, but it felt like 20.

How long did you have to wait for the second try on Phase 2? The website says 1 year, but my applicant coordinator says 6 months.

My bad, it is 37 for SA, not 35. But at the Phase 2 interview today, there was another applicant there who is currently a cop with a few years of military experience. He is currently 37 but he said that he was able to obtain a wavier because of his time served in the military. It sounded like a case by case basis.

I waited a year. Not sure if the rules changed. . . If I recall, it takes about a month for the results. If you passed, you'll get a call from the applicant coordinator; otherwise, you will receive a letter.

Best of luck!

haven't looked at the website in a while, but I seem to remember that if you've ever used certain controlled substances or ever distributed controlled substances illegally, you are automatically disqualified.

I also seem to remember somewhere where it said you have to have 20/20 vision to be a field agent. Note sure if that is still the case.

I failed phase 2, guys. I was bumped out for few weeks or so, that's why I didn't come report back. I get another try in 6 months though.

Out of 6 people from my group, 3 passed. I need to do better.

There is nothing secret about being a FBI agent unless you are undercover. For the other 99% it is no big deal.
