The crash wasn't his fault. Renault has said that there was a mechanical failure on the flap that operates the F-duct so when he braked for the corner he had no rear downforce and the rear end just swung around.

Can somebody explain why Alonso's engine from Bahrain can only be used on the last race? Didn't understand that one. I remember reading everybody could use a new engine on the last race, but guess I heard wrong . Please enlighten me on that issue . And yes, I know there're 8 engines to be used for the season, and used ones can be reused if not touched. Thanks.

Engine Change - Alonso

Read the 2nd post in this discussion. It explains the reason why very succinctly.

What about engine change between Friday practice and Saturday P3 practice sessions?
Was it because Fernando's Engine #1 was changed after Qualifying which was Parc ferme condition and thus it cannot be used again until Abu Dhabi?

Let's say if I use a higher mileage engine on Friday practice, then swap to a fresh one on Saturday practice, Qualifying and finish the race.
Am I able to re-use the high mileage engine on Friday practice on the next race?

No it's a legitimate question, I just wish they were free to do what they want.
As in use as many engines, and get as much down-force as they can. I know the racing itself wouldn't be as good, but sometimes I think they have way too many rules!

Is it the fact that I've been cheering for him since '98, or did Schumi get the hang of Nico for good?

So.......

Was Alonso being conservative (since he doesn't need to win and might have a weak engine) or was that the best he could do?

I don't think so. But if at all, it would've been at the end of Q3 because his times were right up there the entire day before then

He was second behind Hulkenberg and then the Bulls and Hamilton came around and split them. Alonso's last lap was a bit off the pace. I don't think he was being conservative, just a little bit of a bad judgement call.

Apparently JB was involved in quite the situation today:
