Good question. I'm both a US & Zimbabwean citizen . Technically speaking, I'm an African American, but most African Americans consider me to be an African that happens to be a US citizen - if that makes any sense.

My whole family was born and bred in Africa but I just happened to be born here while my parents where in college. When I came back to the US, a lot of African Americans did not consider me to be one of them even though I am a black US citizen.

I guess I was just thinking about tomwid's question about what ethnicity to pick if you're an African American since 'African American' isn't available. If both 'African' and 'African American' where available I could technically pick both.
