So the guy in the white shirt who tried to stop his friend was the one in the end who came back took it for a ride. I guess he figured that since the tree was already down why no steal the bike.

No, no, no my friend. Clearly the good chap only went over to check on the condition of the bike. And when he determined it was in working condition, he left it for the owner right where he found it. Good samaritan indeed!
