The Cayman's clutch is a little soft, but probably needs getting used to. Obviously the 335 is more practical, and the Cayman more stylish and rare, with a more unique experience.

I was on track with two Cayman S cars this past weekend...they were faster than I in stock form in the straight..they were considerably better in the corners.

I was in the same dilemma.
The Cayman S is just a sweet car.
True it may not be as fast as the 335i with a PROcede, but driving pleasure isn't ALL about straight line speed or power.
The Cayman S is just a fantastic all around sports car package...but one exception. It's friggin expensive.

I wanted one with the Preferred Package Plus and Carrerra S wheels.
$66K
You can negotiate $4-6K off, but still $60-62K.

Lease prices were HIGH.
The money factor is like 7.9%
and residual is not realistic. They set it at 57% on 3 years.
The car holds it's value better than that.

Therefore, 36 month leases with 10K miles and not much down are like a grand a month!

If the Cayman S lease price was only $100-150 more than the 335i, it would of won me out.
But the fact of the matter, the 335i is just almost impossible to beat for an all around car that offers luxury AND performance, with good looks and class.
There just is not a better car out there for the money that offers as much as the 335i...period!

He was actually mocking everyone who was comparing the straight line speed of a 335 to the Cayman S as that's not really what Porsches should be used for.

To the OP...completely different cars...different price range, etc. If you're wondering...just get the 335. It's more car for more people. At least you can rely on having made the more pratical choice.

WHat I would do having owned all kinds of 911s including TT and GT3s
( getting into an 07 GT3 now) I would buy or lease the 335i and with the change get yourself a cheap Boxster so for the same price of one cayman you could have both experiences. The boxster could be your track machine and the 335 the daily rocket. A cayman is a nice car but really its a boxster coupe
when you get down to the bottom line. You should be able to pick up a used boxster for $20k or less. there are a bazillion of them.

Cayman S is not faster than stock 335i (=stock tires, open diff, no procede)

The performance is the same in both straights and Nordschleife.
Driven by same driver the lap times are the same for 335i coupe and Cayman S.

Where did you see that info?
The Cayman S should easily outhandle a stock 335i.
As for straight line speed, they should be about equal.

He said Nordschleif, there are an awful lot of high speed sections on that track where I imagine a 335i's added grunt comes in handy. I'm thinking in particular of that uphill section on the back folowed by the relatively high speed turns that follow the concrete one with the huge bank.
