What's the most you want to spend?

If I could buy a new one at this point it would be a Yamaha GP1300R($9,499) with stage II Riva Racing($2,087)

btw I currently have a Yamaha GP1200R and a Yamaha XL1200.
I've never really been a fan of Sea-Doos b/c they don't seem to handle as well and just aren't as fun for me.

i just bought one today and was out for an hour or two, and it goes 70 like its nothing... with my brother on the back

i didnt leave it open for too long since its brand new, and frankly because i was shitting my pants, but i would not doubt it could go 80 on a calm day

I have a 2002 GTX-DI and I brought it brand new. Yes you can get a deal them just like cars.
There's deals on them in the fall time after jetsking season is over (usually sept/oct) and they try to sell whatever is left on the lot in order to make room for snowmobiles.

Mine does 52 mph on almost calm water with 2 riders on board and half tank of fuel.
Biggest part I like about is that it's a DI engine and does 120+ miles on one tank of gas (15 gal) during 4000-5000 rpms which is aprox 35-40mph.

i just ate a few wakes in the face today and had spray hit me in the eyeball at like 60mph which was great, debating whether to get goggles/sunglases or tough it out, also a little worried about this "forced enema" when not wearing wetsuit pants...

We love PWC's, they are all great machines, each brand has strong points. Here is some quick info based on my personal observations or ownership, research and experience...

Yamaha WaveRunner 4 stroke (FX Series)
Pros: Stable handling, dry ride. Build Quality. Good fuel economy. Overall comfort is excellent with the available cruiser seat model. The Cadillac of PWC.
Cons: You will get passed a lot on the water. Oil filters get clogged and reduce speed over time. (This can be fixed with Riva Power filter). The newer, low end VX series has been more problematic.

Honda Aquatrax 4 stroke Turbo
Pros: Reliable, playful hull, good fuel economy. Overall a great performer with few complaints.
Cons: You will get passed a lot on the water. Turbo lag big time.

Kawasaki Ultra 250X Supercharged
Pros: 250 hp. Great hole shot and speed, excellent rough water handling.
Cons: First year reliability has been spotty, exhaust hoses pop off, cheap paint, wet ride, sucks gas like crazy. I have seen several of these sold within 90 days of purchase specifically due to the terrible fuel economy. Hopefully 2nd generation will offer better reliabilty and fuel economy.

Seadoo RXP (2 seater) and RXT (3 seater) both Supercharged
Pros: 215 hp. Great hole shot and speed, RXP is the fastest of all on glass, RXT has excellent rough water handling and top end equal or better than the Ultra 250X, even with 35 less horses. Some report getting about twice the fuel economy of the Ultra 250X and identical speeds. Unique closed loop cooling sytem keeps salt water out of the engine.
Cons: Supercharger clutch prone to failure (metal washers will fix this for $99.00). Some are expecting a recall on this problem, it is the only weak link in the system, RXP Rotax engines/hulls have been modified to over 90 mph putting them in top class with Yamaha 2 stroke triple pipes as the fastest in the world.

We LOVE our PWC's, we ride them year-round 3-4 times a week and I never get tired of the acceleration and speed. Keep in mind, speedos on PWC are not accurate, to get actual speed we use a GPS, and our best is 67.3 mph on GPS. Reports of stock PWC doing 70, 80 mph are all bogus. There are reports of a Coast Guard agreement with manufacturers that no stock PWC can be designed to exceed 65 mph with two people and a full tank. This because it has been proven if you come off the machine at a speed greater than 65 mph you are far more likely to lose consciousness or sustain injury.

We have approx. 150 hours on our RXT's they have been almost flawless. I have yet to be passed by any stock PWC. Rumors for 2008 include a 260 hp beast from Seadoo (with metal washers from factory) and a supercharged 4 stroke from Yamaha. Get a 4 stroke. 2 strokes are dinosaurs and consume more fuel, plus expel unburned fuel into the environment. Buy new if possible, if you buy pre-owned get one with an extended warranty, they are very expensive to have repaired, regardless of the brand. Here are a few pics of our twins, the "black beasts":

Bearing failure can happen but not as common as the ceramic washer issue. It is covered under warranty. Best to plan on having the SC rebuilt every 100 hours with new bearing and fresh set of washers. Think of it as brake pads on your car, it's a high wear component.

If you do a lot of rough water riding as in the ocean, the Ultra 250X may be better for you since it uses a belt-driven roots style super charger. Just be prepared for fuel shock, the Ultras are VERY thirsty beasts. If you don't mind being passed, the Yamahas and Hondas are great choices. We sold our pair of Yamaha FX140's, just got tired of being passed by other skis.

the rxp that was via the onboard spedo though

and not ocean iding, but its for use in a lake that is very high traffic (this house is at the enterance from lake charlevoix to lake michigan) a lot of the time so its not exactly smooth

RXP is an awesome watercraft, you gotta love the combination of speed and fun, did you get the 07 model? Register over at greenhulk.net they are a great group of riders and techs, you will learn more in one hour there than you can in a year of just talking to dealers. If you can find a dealer who will stand behind after market parts, get them to install the metal washers—it will save you weeks of down time. Make sure the dealer tells you they will not void your BRP warranty, some are funny about this.

im not familiar with the actual internals of supercharges so i guess i need to read up on that a bit, just a look at the offending area broken apart should give me an idea

and man, about this time of night there are no boats going through and the wind is dead so the water is like glass, i really want to go out there and just floor it across the lake, but its a new motor, and its cold <_<

oh yea and this things going to be used only a few months out of the year and stored/winterized for the winter (this is a summer home)

533ogetnom, don't worry you'll be past that 10 hr break-in period in no time. We had the RXT's out twice today, love the PWC's they give you such a sense of freedom on the water.

yea were putting about 3+ per day, im wondering if we can change the oil ourselves if we get a pump, plan on changing it often like my car but dont want to pay a dealer

Go Yamaha FX Series. Can't go wrong. I have an 06 FX w/ 140hp. More than enough power and goes 60 on the water fine...also good for pulling waterskiers, tubes and wakeboards.
