I like this concept, because for me, wealth is the freedom from worry, so that I have the time to do the things in my life that please me, including having meaningful relationships with those people who are ultimately important to me. I guess you could call this the ability to get on with the "self actualisation" part of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

The funny thing though is that sometimes I find that having money can separate you from people. It has been interesting to see how some of my friends have responded to my success over the years. I guess they weren't really my friends.

Sadly, some people get trapped in the spiral of thinking that they have to keep earning more, and forget their original motivation to accumulate the wealth in the first place. They never feel like they are getting anywhere and they never feel like they have time for their family, the money becomes a curse. I don' think that this is wealth.

Moving from the conceptual, I think true wealth is a stream of income that earns itself. Ie you don't have to go to work to get it, you have investments that earn passive income and you are truly free to spend your time as you see fit. Otherwise what is the point of having money if you can't enjoy your life now?

Money can't buy you happiness, but it sure can make misery much more enjoyable.
