Around the 2.9 mile test loop, Chevy compared the Z/28 to some interesting benchmarks – its siblings, the 1LE and ZL1, and its arch enemies, the Mustang GT500 and Boss 302 Laguna Seca. Interestingly, the car with the most power, the GT500, also posted the slowest lap time, clocking a 1:59.97. The Laguna Seca did a bit better, running a 1:59.05, followed by the 1LE at 1:58.85. Despite the intensely technical nature of the test track, the ZL1 was still able to use its superior horsepower compared to the 1LE to run a faster 1:56.58, but it was the Z/28 that delivered the best time at a mere 1:53.71 Where it stacks up on the ring. 38. The Camaro will lose weight when it switches to the Alpha platform. Zeta was designed to spawn big vehicles like the Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8/Chevy SS. It wasn't the best platform for the Camaro, but that is all GM had to use at the time and they didn't do too bad of a job with it. If you want a heavy muscle car, look no further than the Challenger. |

Also, you won't feel guilty for stripping what is remaining of the interior out. Good starting point for people that want a dedicated track car. Amazing car for someone that wants a track car that they can pack their wife and two kids into and pack enough stuff for a weekend HPDE. I'm looking forward to what people do with this car once it's out on the market. |

I respect GM for building the Camaro, and I think SS is a good car for the price. But still, Z28 at 3800lbs, which is for a stripped out track car that will be very impractical for daily use(AC delete, only one speaker for the sound system, thin glasses, little to no sound deadening, no spare tire, and still that weight? really???)? And $60k price tag? No thanks. It uses the same engine as C6 Z06(which is pretty darn good BTW... puts down mid-500rwhp with just a cam and headers), so I'd rather have the Z06 which is lighter. If you put similar tires on a Z06(same dry-weather street-legal race tires), I'm sure you'd get similar or better results with 600lbs less weight. If you want a daily driver with backseat + track day car in one package, there are much better choices if you are willing to sacrifice a bit of performance. Z28 sure isn't a daily driver material unless you are willing to sacrifice A LOT of comfort. Last edited by Rookie84; 10-20-2013 at 07:21 PM.. |
